    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 daysinterviewed at RetailMeNot in June 2015.

    Interview

Had trouble connecting with the interviewer, there were some network issues initially, so the interview started 35 minutes late. After 35 minutes the interviewer called and his voice echoed all the time, I requested that he move to a different room, but he kept talking. After about 10 minutes, I said I CANNOT hear you at all, then he said he would cut the call and call me back in a few minutes after moving to a non-echoing room. He called again after 5-10 minutes, and this time he was sitting in a cafeteria with people talking in the background. I have had more than a few interviews in the past with good and bad experiences, but unfortunately this one was my worst experience. I haven't heard from the recruiter about the decision on my interview, but after such an experience, I am not too hopeful. I was too distracted and a little annoyed.

I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at RetailMeNot (Austin, TX (US)) in June 2015.

    Interview

After a few excited phone screens and acing the technical aspects of the role, I was told I was not chosen even though it was revealed to me that I had been the only person to interview so far. Their interview process took 4 hours and I was given no real technical assesments, not even a fizzbuzz type coding challenge. The Hiring manager seemed disengaged and overburdened with having to interview someone.

    Interview

On campus 50 minute interview. First 15 minutes or so were talking about the company and my background. Then technical questions of increasing complexity. Always be thinking about how to have the most efficient code. It's not worth it to waste your time with an inefficient solution. Really, if you can't get the most efficient solution you won't get the job anyway.

    Interview

On-campus interview--pretty standard. Asked to do operations on an arbitrary list, like finding different ways to splice it. Asked to implement a recursive solution to find all possible ways of splicing a list of integers into valid prime numbers. Interviewer was very patient and helpful throughout, and offered good feedback and guidance.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 daysinterviewed at RetailMeNot (Austin, TX (US)) in February 2015.

    Interview

Saw an ad for the open position online and sent in my resume. I was contacted within a few hours with the request to schedule a phone screen. Was initially excited that they moved so quickly, and scheduled the first call for the following Monday. From the moment the recruiter got on the line, it seemed completely unprofessional and was a total waste of my time. She barely guided the conversation at all, so when I took the lead and gave an overview of my background, she sounded very uninterested. Half the time she was talking to people beside her in the office and not participating in the phone conversation. When it was time to wrap up the call, it was a very cold and short "ok bye" and nothing else. A couple hours later, I received an email from her saying that they are going to pass at this time and that they have a couple of candidates further along in the process. First off, if you have candidates further along in the process, wouldn't you want to see if one of them works out before continuing to interview other people? Second, if you are going to interview additional people, why waste their time if you are not seriously considering them? This interview left a very sour taste. I felt disrespected and that I wasted a valuable 30 mins in my day that could've easily been spent on doing something far more productive than speaking to someone, who initiated the conversation, but then decided they didn't care.

    Product Manager Interview

I applied through college or university. The process took 6 weeksinterviewed at RetailMeNot (New York, NY (US)) in February 2015.

    Interview

Met a recruiter at the career fair in the Fall through a friend who was a previous Software Engineering intern. The recruiter contacted me in the Spring asking to interview. It was a while before we were able to set this up. The interview with the HR rep were basic questions about my background, work experience, previous projects. Then an interview with the coordinator of the PM internship program (which was very small, I think 2 total PM interns). I then had another interview with another PM, which was similar, just a different perspective. Ultimately was too late in the process, they had already hired interns.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 6 weeksinterviewed at RetailMeNot (Austin, TX (US)) in February 2015.

    Interview

Most of the process was very smooth and professional. Applied on campus and had short interview the next day with an engineer. Heard back a few days later that they wanted to do an on-site interview, so arranged to go out to Austin a few weekends later. The on-site interview was a long day, with four technical interviews, an interview with the recruiter, and a HR-type interview with a senior developer in the company -- the whole thing lasted most of the morning and afternoon. I mostly enjoyed the experience, but there was absolutely no communication of any kind afterwards in the span that they had said they would get back to me.

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 dayinterviewed at RetailMeNot (Ithaca, NY (US)) in February 2015.

    Interview

1 hour interview, a few short answer questions and one coding question. The short answer questions were "what is a dictionary", and "what is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?" These were straight forward to answer. The coding question came in 3 parts, the first and second involving simple iterative functions, but the third was to implement it recursively. The third was easy if you were to implement it from scratch, but not easy when they instructed to change the function by adding a few lines.
