I worked at AmerisourceBergen full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCheck cashed
Pharma industry experience
Anyone who can survive this place can get a job anywhere

ConsGays should not apply
Company is stuck in an 80's time warp, mentality towards customers, business, and associates
Very cliques, no matter how great you are at your job (fill in the blank)

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Short and not sweet

Senior Customer Liaison (Former Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at AmerisourceBergen full-time for more than a year

ProsI had a great boss who knew what she was going and didnt micromanage. The peers were good, and I was able to work from home so had a lot of flexibility

ConsSenior Management had no idea what they were doing. The company sold its customers to a competitor and sold out all of its employees

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Room for growth, but no work/life balance.

Senior Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
Chesterbrook, PA (US)

I have been working at AmerisourceBergen full-time for less than a year

ProsGood pay and benefits. Located in a nice area...for now.

ConsManagement is too concerned with face time and not about actual work. Not enough to do. Will be moving the headquarters soon closer to Philly or NJ.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on the quality and quantity of work and less on how many hours are put in by people. People respect companies that value work/life balance.

Behind the times

Pharmacist (Former Employee)

I worked at AmerisourceBergen full-time for less than a year

ProsGreat "offered" benefits, some good people working for them who are actually concerned about patients

ConsPoorly managed by old-school pharmacists who are either unable or unwilling to grasp pharmacy in the new era. They will be out of business in the next 10 years with necessary changes.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay people what they are worth. Focus on patients. Get rid of old "buddies" who work for you when they don't have the company's best interest in mind.

-Leadership was out of touch with employee base
-Experienced "flavor of the week/month" type initiatives
-Growth opportunities were limited

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to team members when they ask for advice and ways to grow as a professional.

Initially, this was an awesome company to join.

Reimbursement Counselor (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC (US)

I have been working at AmerisourceBergen full-time for more than 8 years

ProsThey have great benefits, but really need work on opportunities for career advancement.

ConsThey have recently hired managers with no experience in medical insurance. They have strictly started hiring managers from other call centers who are not well-versed on medical benefits. This has created a disconnect between managers and workers. It has also allowed management to implement unrealistic expectations on the company's staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would like them to take an honest look at their goals and expectations for an 8 hour work day, and realize how impossible their goals are for their employees to meet those goals on a daily basis. Please realize that if one benefit verification call is 30 minutes or more then it will be impossible to consistently meet such high expectations. I would also prefer that the company review their hiring guidelines for program managers, and make it a requirement that those program managers have at least on year of experience of verifying and documenting medical insurance prior to becoming program managers.
