Current Employee - Cloud Engineer in Cambridge, East of England, England

I have been working at Autonomy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The job provides a decent lifestyle and interesting challenging work. Awesome people that hold the teams together.

    Cons

I don't have anything particularly new to say compared to the present reviews. I can see truth in most of the issues raise, but wonder if it's really that different to other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Looking forward to see what magic HP can bring. I am very hopeful that Meg Whitman sees the challenge of transforming the business from ones that driven by sales to one that driven by customer (and hopefully employee) satisfaction.

I have been working at Autonomy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Since the directors quit a couple of months ago things have really got better for us in Cambridge at least. Plus the web filter that blocked access to a load of websites has gone and the dress code is now casual.

But the best thing here has always been the rest of the dev team who are all great guys and you learn loads from each other.

    Cons

Though the directors were the cause of much of the negativity here we could still do with some new ones, so I hope they're looking for some.

    Pros

Since the directors quit a couple of months ago things have got much better here. Plus the web filter that stopped us getting to a load of websites has gone and the dress code is casual at last.

But the best thing about being here is the rest of the dev team who are great guys and you learn loads from each other.

    Cons

Though the former directors were the cause of most of the negativity here we could still probably do with some new ones so I hope someone's looking.

I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

Diverse range of products, and wide variety of customers.
Lots of travelling, offers a good lifestyle for people who manage their time.
People seem to be compensated well.

    Cons

    Lots of travelling.
A lot of the skills you need have to be picked up on the spot, and quite a bit of improvisation is needed to complete the task.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure training for the necessary work is given before deploying projects, this will allow the project to be completed to higher standards.

I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

Great opportunities, steep learning curve, excellent senior management, dynamic environment and the people are great - some of the best in the industry.

    Cons

This is not the place for someone passive, if you don't get a response to an email, just escalate. Don't sit around thinking it is not your responsibility just because you didn't hear back. This is actually a pro as I dislike reactive behavior.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicating the rules more openly would help new employees adjust more easily.

I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

Hugely challenging workin environement. Broad exposure to new technologies. Excellent team ethos and dynamic working environment. Opportunties are varied and performance related. Excellent identification of an individuals skills and strengths. Hard work and dedication are rewarded. Strong competent management who quickly identify what is neccessary.

    Cons

Core emphasis on sales and targets, placing enginering under strain. Acceptance that hours beyond 40+ a week are standard with no obvious financial reward; no clearly defined bonus structure. Dynamic working environment, wi'th 'upstart' approach is effective provided communication is clear and well maintained. Otherwise, lack of process can result in work being duplicated and poor quality results. Probably the result of rapid growth and huge success.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement basic processes and ensure products and services are sold clearly with regards to their capabailities. 'Yes' cluture places engineering under unsustainable pressure.
