I worked at Autonomy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - good work life balance
    - excellent project managers from HP recently brought in
    - stable career
    - good line managers

    Cons

    - There was not a Christmas party this year - the norm before the takeover was for the company to hire a jet, fly us out and put us up in a 5* hotel for the weekend.
    - Free Friday lunch has been cancelled
    - pigeon holed into learning about technologies which are likely to be torn apart and rebuilt over the coming years
    - salary increases are fairly non existent
    - some of the technology is fairly dated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - create a graduate scheme with clear learning objectives and cash incentives to stay for X years.
-hire UI developers to create a cross platform easily configurable UI for IDOL

    Pros

You could promote quickly if you were good at "networking"

    Cons

Pre HP acquisition: Lack of structured training, Dodgy sales commision scheme (paid late and alwayas trying to avoid it). Management of HQ absolutley tyrannical, unable to motivate employees other than with shouting and menacing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retire

    Pros

Flexible working environment with the ability to focus on historical and new accounts

    Cons

no real sales strategy - treat every deal as tactical. Management can come across as desperate to close any size of deal

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

start to take a more holistic approach to selling into major accounts and they will take you serious

Great technology. Lots of pressure to succeed. Unforgiving of the slothful, moaning & stupid.

I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

Not very PC I know! But its both true that its great technology and that there is a great deal of pressure to succeed at every level. The rewards for the successful and hard working are significant and the opportunities for where this gig could go are immense, but the problems come when everyone thinks THEY are the hard working ones (and aren't) in which case its pretty unforgiving.

    Cons

Its not a perfect world but this seems to sort out the men from the boys. Choose wisely and know you're strengths.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its a big mistake not to publicise rewards more internally. Need better internal comms. Having said that, the fundamentals are the right ones so these are relatively minor concerns.

I have been working at Autonomy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Hp has good brand recogntion

    Cons

    Compared to other software firms

    No Strong direction or ethos
Variable pay and reward structure seems fairly negligible
Very bureaucratic and process heavy for everything
Little day to day perks, subsidized food, coffee cups and etc

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actions matter, talking about investing in the business is more then stock buy backs and layoffs. The software is lacking true identity and vision, it is just figuring out new buzz words to try to sell yesterdays news

Autonomy went through multiple acquisitions and a lot of employee has been laid off ... not sure if it finished ...

    Pros

Interesting products. With right / smart management can be progress in the future - with out appropriate management way to nowhere.

    Cons

You will utilize wide range of knowledge and learn well balancing proportion of IT and Telecom.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management level very from one to another person. People (employee and managers) playing a lot of "job security" tricks ..

I worked at Autonomy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great pay & benefits! Organized sports after work against other company reams here in SF & good morale amongst coworkers. Free catered lunches weekly!

    Cons

Upper management has a HUGE disconnect between their employees. The sales/BDA goals are extremely unrealistic. I have led my sales team in all my prior positions, but at this company I never hit my weekly quota, nor did 90% of my peers in my department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to know your employees. Spend a day doing what they/we do & see exactly what we are up against & then set production goals based on that. REALISTIC, Attainable Goals.
