I worked at Children's Hospital Boston

    Pros

The hiring manager were fantastic and worked very well with me and I had a steady flow of candidates at all time. The hospital was working on very leading edge applications and always looking for talented technology people.

    Cons

The pay scale was about 20% less that most technical companies in the area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review salary compensation on a regular basis

I have been working at Children's Hospital Boston as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The leadership encourages individuality, independence and trust.

    Cons

The building could use a major renovation. Computer hardware, cubicles, interior design feels like an elementary school from the 1980's, extremely outdated. Lacking sunlight from outside induces subtle feelings of claustrophobia.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In addition to the 'welcome new staff member' email, consider showing the new hire around the office space and formally introducing them to staff outside of the team that would serve as a valuable resource to them. Making this effort should demonstrate the importance of relationship building and help the new hire feel comfortable in the new environment.

    Cons

they do not provide any 401k or retirement benefit. probably is true for postdoc positions at most other places too.

I worked at Children's Hospital Boston as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Incredible opportunity to work with physicians, researcher, and scholars at the tops of their fields on new ideas and innovative treatments. Some of the best care in the world.

    Cons

Because it is such a leader in care and research, you must be on your toes. Be ready to accept demanding challenges, but they are so rewarding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The hospital does a good job of seeming like a family rather than a bureaucracy, but that feel of an institution still creeps in at points.
