Treat me well, but too much focus on stock price

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Solon, OH (US)

I have been working at Danaher full-time for more than a year

ProsI'm at an op-co, Keithley Instruments. Locally, it's a great environment, friendly (if nerdly) people. Interesting work and products.

ConsCheap. Have to fight to get computer equipment appropriate to the job you are doing. Danaher is stock-driven, so game playing at the end of every quarter to make the numbers look good. Many departments are chronically short-staffed; only so much more you can do with less.

I divorced at 35, but became millionaire at 38...

Vice President of Sales (Current Employee)
Stuttgart (Germany)

I have been working at Danaher full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGlobal exposure, career opportunities, core values, compensation package, freedom

ConsStar Wars: you will find bright leaders whom are the gate keepers of the company values with whom you will learn and grow, but also you will find poor leaders very opportunistic working the month to make up their finance call and that will surf on the ever leaning race of the businesses to build their career and be a threat to your success, to Danaher success

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop more of the skip meetings with Group Exec/Senior Management. GM / BUM / VPs should have a 360° every year with a participants list they do not choose and being extended to all functional departments (2 each)

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Decent but not outstanding.

Supply Chain (Current Employee)

I have been working at Danaher full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGood benefits and for the most part the culture is okay but it can be a bit demanding.

ConsThe plant equipment is aged and the office carpet, furniture, and flooring is pathetic. Our division is one of the largest cash flow generators for Danaher but you would never know it by the condition of our office and building. Also, when I was hired, outside ideas were welcome but now it is strictly all about DBS as the only way of running a business. I would probably not recommend this as a place to work.

Advice to Senior ManagementShake loose some of the cash and update the building.

Steady but dull place to work

Systems Engineer (Current Employee)
Miami, FL (US)

I have been working at Danaher full-time for more than 3 years

ProsStable, if you are in a profit center

ConsNo risk taking, no internal RandD, would rather acquire than promote interrnal growth

Advice to Senior ManagementTake some risks, spend some money, you can't take it with you.

Danaher is a huge bear on a mono-cycle.

Regional Sourcing (Former Employee)

I worked at Danaher full-time for more than 3 years

ProsStrong management philosophy - following Japanese Kaizen and the Toyota Way; very focus on waste elimination and policy deployment. Everyone is aligned and trained in this management philosophy.

ConsMicro-management has reached new heights. Danaher Business Systems is sometimes driving too much focus on small improvements and not leap-frogging new initiatives. Toyota production system is very good for serial production - but not effective at achieving breakthrough designs.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook beyond the immediacy of small improvements. Breakthrough improvements require change in top management focus and new policies will bring higher efficiency. Better open communications and feedback from bottom will serve well if top management is willing to listen.

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Only grows by acquisition and reducing costs.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Miami, FL (US)

I worked at Danaher full-time for more than 10 years

ProsBetter to invest in DHR
They apply DBS (similar to the Toyota Way) to all newly acquired OpCo's which drives their success

ConsBe prepared to assume two or three roles if you remain for any period of time after the acquistion,
The company really doesn't invest in R&D. The growth comes from aquisition and some new products.

Advice to Senior ManagementI don't believe the best team wins as per the company philosophy states.

Great Lean culture

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Elizabethtown, NC (US)

I worked at Danaher full-time for more than a year

ProsAble to get things changed quickly, easy to move to different roles. Sister companies offer a ton of opportunity if you are willing to move.

ConsVery high turnover, maybe due to remote location. This location is a cash cow with little investment in plant and equipment. There seemed to be a preference for ex-military for management promotions.

Potential varies on your manager, not your performance

Customer Service Leadership (Former Employee)

I worked at Danaher full-time for more than 5 years

ProsBenefits, additional opportunities, Lean, safe work environment

ConsWork never stops
Goals are set so high, you are meant not to hit them
Unless you are a "high potential" there is no clear path for advancement - and it is largely based on your individual manager as to how well you can do here.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore career counseling and defined goals please.

Danaher DNA?

A Senior Engineering Leader (Current Employee)
New England (Jamaica)

I have been working at Danaher full-time for more than 3 years

ProsExcellent learning experience. Competitive pay. If you want to lead and excel and work in a competitive environment, this place is for you

ConsIf it's not, and you want to find a job that you like and can stay at for a long time, need not apply.

Despite all their talk, the managers have no control. They are still lower on the hill in the direction of leadership. If you want to excel, just complete your tasks. They don't have to be right, they just need to be on time. They prefer to throw it up on the wall, rather than put any rational thought behind it.

Advice to Senior ManagementRead the comments here! You treat your employees like a statistic and don't hide the fact. Forcing a furlough with 8% in sales growth despite no investment, hiring freeze, penny pinching scrutiny only to meet a short term goal, sits very poorly with your staff and employees that work for us.
