If you can keep your head down you'll do fine

Audit Senior (Former Employee) Irvine, CA (US)

ProsDifferent clients and industries keep things interesting, depending on your team it can be fun and you'll make some good friends, 3 weeks vacation which is more than most places plus the option to buy more vacation (but remember it'll cost you)

ConsOf course, no work life balance, blame game is everywhere all the time, unrealistic expectations and very little help as you progress in the firm. Management does not care to hear anything negative though like most corporate cultures they'll say they do. Very little support from upper management so hard to feel like a team.

Advice to Senior ManagementOther than the obvious "hire more people", stop having such a chip on your shoulders to think that you don't have to get your hands dirty in the detail and help out with the actual onsite audit work. It is supposed to be a team after all. Just because it's the way it was done when you were a senior doesn't mean it was done right or needs to stay that way.

EY is a great company to work for if you are in the right group.

Tax (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA (US)

ProsGood benefits. Nice coworkers. Great place to list on your resume.

ConsIt only takes one bad leader to destroy a group. People sit around and are afraid to leave at night because the group leader is a workaholic. No respect for work life balance. People are rewarded only for long hours and not for results. Those that don't adopt this way of working are labled poor performers.

Advice to Senior ManagementRelax and quit working people to death. People do have lives outside of work. Reward efficiency by letting people leave when their work is done. Lead by example.

    Okay place to work

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA (US)

ProsHas a good reputation and will look on good on your resume. Your experience depends on the projects you get put on, so everyone has a different experience in the firm.

ConsThere is a lot of office politics that you can't avoid even if you try. These politics cause major biases against you even if you haven't worked on a project for someone, they might already have a negative opinion of you.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is not fair in reviews as they give good reviews to people they like based on "cliques" you're in.

    It is what it is

Audit Senior (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA (US)

ProsIt's a good learning experience for young professionals. It's a give and take, you get the experience, but you will get worked. You will be exposed to really smart individuals and you also get to learn about the business.

Consone major downside is being overworked and underpaid, and work/life balance is not great.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromotions should be based on performance. If you are good at what you do, you should be awarded.
