Pretty good company to work for.

    Personal Banker (Current Employee)

ProsGreat benefits program. Work hours are extremely family friendly. Training available to those seeking it. Encouraged to handle customer complaints on your own.

ConsFlagstar has little room for advancement. Management positions are held by longtime employees. The economy has resulted in layoffs in the company.

Full time employee over 5 years

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Troy, MI (US)

    Pros*Benefits
    *Co-workers are like family
    *Excellent lunch room with restaurant

    Cons*Little room for advancement
*Many managers have been promoted only because of time there and not because of skill
*Company is reactive rather than proactive
*Pay is on the low side for your position unless you are a hold over from the old regime.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease trim the fat. There are too many people that are complacent in their roles just going through the motions. You've lost good people due to cuts in the wrong places

    Great Company

Senior Financial Service Representative (Current Employee) Sterling Heights, MI (US)

ProsI work in the branch as a personal banker and enjoy working with my team on a daily basis. Management is great as long as you meet or exceed your goals. Work/school/life balance is great and they are really flexible.

ConsLoan goals can be stressful at times. Very hard to get promoted within. A lot of ass kissing is necessary to get what you want.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart hiring within the company instead of outsiders.

Great People, Not So Great Internal Coordination/Communication

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are many good people that do a lot for their community and genuinely care for others, especially customers and coworkers.

ConsDepartments are like nuclear missile silos, especially the large generic departments like marketing. They either don't think to communicate and share info, or they don't want to. At times it is like 100 little companies, instead of 1. The officers club also exists like the military in the 1950's. Non-Officers don't communicate with officers outside their direct reports.

Advice to Senior ManagementForce your employees to share information across teams and titles. Job titles are just a function, not a symbol or culture of your status.

    Friendly environment. Enjoyed my coworkers.

ConsWork is a bit redundant and dull at times

ProsThe staff at this banking institution are amazing individuals.

ConsMiddle Managment is non-exhisting and under appreciated by upper Managment.
