The way the Company treat employees is very good, paying a lot of attention to people willingness.
The number of resources available to employees is really high

Expatriates policies may not be always clear and accessible.

I worked at Fluor full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Large and high calibre peer group. Provides access to a great amount of technical standards and guidelines. Technical support from various centres the world over is truly amazing.

    Cons

Some of the senior staff are well-entrenched for years and seem to view new staff as threats. Group meetings of project staff are rarely held. Project work force tends to be too large and unwieldy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to bring in fresh thoughts and break up the old-fashioned heirarchical functioning.

Current Employee - Project Information Manager in Farnborough, Hampshire, South East England, England

I have been working at Fluor full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Very process driven organisation - but thats not a bad thing in this case
     - Fairly flat management structure
     - A high focus on technical competence on employees and delivering that to clients

    Cons

    - Limit to how far/quickly you can grow if you are not an engineer
     - You may be stuck with a duff project and not be able to move on until the project is over, or you leave the company

I worked at Fluor full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I worked for Fluor for 13 years; if you pay attention and work as a team player, it exceeds the other top EPC firms for which I worked in terms of learning curve on project execution, employee relations and employee/management loyalty. If you don't know how to work as a team player, our division quickly got rid of you through separation or transfer, and some of the personality with whom you work do not make "team work" easy.

    Cons

Fluor pays near the top, but not at the top of major US EPC firms. Some of its technical experts are lifers who prefer to talk only with each other, sometimes at the expense of project operations. The Construction side out of Greenville and bean-counters in Sugar Land have sometimes had oversize influence on company performance and not in a good way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your rather talented HR staff; re-institute the Fluor Constructors HR folks onsite to ensure your employees are well cared for.

I worked at Fluor as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Very professional people. You're left alone to do your job and they have clear cut information to show you how they want it done.

    Cons

Like most contract work, you're busy until you're not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Doing a good job.

I have been working at Fluor full-time

    Pros

Successful company with true commitment to both ethics and safety.

    Cons

Fluor is a project-based company. Jobs last only until the project ends - often after only a few months or a couple of years. If there is not another job available on a different project, employees are put on LOA without pay. This results in employees leaving the company for other firms or taking jobs in hardship areas to stay employed.
