Good company to work for.

Process Engineering Manager (Former Employee)
Camberley, England

I worked at Fluor full-time for more than a year

ProsLarge and high calibre peer group. Provides access to a great amount of technical standards and guidelines. Technical support from various centres the world over is truly amazing.

ConsSome of the senior staff are well-entrenched for years and seem to view new staff as threats. Group meetings of project staff are rarely held. Project work force tends to be too large and unwieldy.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to bring in fresh thoughts and break up the old-fashioned heirarchical functioning.

Great Company to work for

Project Information Manager (Current Employee)
Farnborough, Hampshire, South East England, England

I have been working at Fluor full-time for less than a year

Pros- Very process driven organisation - but thats not a bad thing in this case
 - Fairly flat management structure
 - A high focus on technical competence on employees and delivering that to clients

Cons- Limit to how far/quickly you can grow if you are not an engineer
 - You may be stuck with a duff project and not be able to move on until the project is over, or you leave the company

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Fluor

ProsYou'll miss Fluor's culture. It can't be matched.

ConsSeniors don't understand that India got freedom in 1947 and they've got the right to speak.

Logcap experience was a beast of a challenge.

Construction Coordinator (Former Employee)
Kabul (Afghanistan)

I worked at Fluor full-time for more than 3 years

Pros84 hour workweek eliminated limitations on income. Basically, two years in one.
The majority gave 100% effort up to the minute they stepped on the plane for demobilization.

ConsDuration to accomplish a task resulted in perceived ignorance i.e. Install A/C unit in winter.
Extreme limitations on transferring to another Fluor project.

I worked at Fluor full-time for more than 3 years

ProsI worked with a wide range of professional and knowledgeable personnel. Fluor does not silo someone along a strict career path.

Career opportunities

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Houston, TX (US)

I worked at Fluor full-time for more than 10 years

ProsFluor is a very big company but there are opportunities to make a career at Fluor for one willing to put in the extra effort. Good training, varied projects and assignments. Oversees assignments also available if you let it known you are interested. Benefits are good - especially the TOWP (time off with pay). Generous TOWP and you get to keep it and roll over each year whatever is not used.

ConsNegatives are also a result of being big. You must network with lots of people and get to know the management. Volunteer for assignments, charity events, etc. Opportunities sometimes require one being in the right place at the right time.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time on mid level employees who have 10-20 years at Fluor. They still have plenty of time to contribute and know more about managing than the 5-10 year young employees who are being shoved through to management positions before they are ready.
