A great place to learn and grow. Unfortunately, they were bought out and plan to dump everyone.

Scientist II (Former Employee) Commack, NY (US)

ProsLots of opportunity to receive training and participate in many different work challenges.

ConsHierarchy and career ladders were very set in stone. PhDs always took a higher spot over those without. Now that they were purchased, layoffs everywhere. Expect more.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe fair and honest with those who are left on your staff. If they are going to lose their jobs, they deserve to know.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Pharmaceuticals Sales Representative (Former Employee)

ProsFlexibility, Income, Car, Helping Patients, Scope of products

ConsManagement, Busy work, unproductive repetitive calls for the sake of checking a box

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat reps with adult respect, cultivate a culture for managing ones own business, motivate with contests not by micromanagement. Get rid of the internal political noise.

Forest was a good place to work

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Jersey City, NJ (US)

ProsGood benefits including stock options and profit sharing, good location, flexible hours, good working relationship with direct managers, co-workers good to work with.

ConsRecent restructuring allowed unqualified and narcissistic people to be in managerial positions turning the working environment in the department TOXIC. Their unprincipled behavior should be used as a "bad manager" case study example for business schools. The unethical practices that took place were even overlooked by upper management.

A good company that FINISHED is best days!

Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) Jersey City, NJ (US)

ProsGreat people and interesting work. You could learn a lot about the industry while continuing your education.

ConsSome of the people should not have been in management. They truly made the environment TOXIC.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo management team should be allowed to LINGER for 10+ years unless the company is doing tremendously over the course of those years. When people do not leave a company someone must put them out or nothing will change.

    Senior management lost it's way

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsForest was a company that offered a great deal of rapid upward mobility to many individuals. The current change brought about by restructuring and the sale to Actavis will likely continue to create opportunities for some individuals. The diversity of Forest's product portfolio allows the company to compete in several large therapeutic areas.

ConsSenior management failed to capitalize on the revenue windfall generated by Lexapro and Namenda in their hey-day. Clinging to an antiquated commercial sales and marketing model has negatively affected earnings growth. Conducting business "with blinders on" weakened the stock price and allowed for a takeover by Actavis.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf Forest will continue to function as an operating unit of Actavis it will be important to restructure senior management in sales, marketing, and contracting. The current group has proved unwilling to consider best practices executed by contemporaries in the industry. In a very direct manner this has led to the downfall of a once great sales and marketing organization. It will be imperative to introduce a culture willing to consider innovative ways of doing business in the new health care economy.

The company culture left with the former CEO. The future is uncertain.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsForest used to have a great benefit package, a holiday party that spared no expense, a company-wide picnic and other perks. The culture varies depending on the department, the management and the chemistry with your co-workers. Great place for growing if you are interested in the pharmaceutical industry

ConsIt has gone through a change and the future is uncertain.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe sure to recognize and reward talent.
