Former Employee

Mortgage Banker (Former Employee)
Cincinnati, OH (US)

I worked at Huntington National Bank full-time for less than a year

ProsThere are no pros to speak of.

ConsThe managers will give you the bait and switch during the interview. They will tell you what you want to hear, then change the story once you're locked in and hired. You will be set up to FAIL!! Senior management is always hired from outside of the company, never from within. Horrible training. Management plays favorites and if you're not one of the favorites, you will not survive and they will find a reason to get rid of you. They always hire management from within, always from outside, therefore, you will receive NO HELP, just criticism ultimately termination. 2/3 of the employees that I started with are no longer working for the bank. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS BANK. I don't see this bank lasting another 10 years.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire EVERY SINGLE SALES MANAGER AND REGIONAL SALES MANAGER AND start over. They are ignorant to the mortgage industry. This company will not succeed in the Cincinnati/NKY market, (if the institution even lasts at all). DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME INTERVIEWING WITH THIS COMPANY. (And get rid of the disgusting green color. You look like morons.)

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Incompetent IT middle management, IT project management a disaster, IT application releases are train wrecks.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Huntington National Bank full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGenerous PTO days. Slowly adding more competent technical people. Some nice benefits like free tickets to pro hockey games.

ConsSr. manager drops F bombs in open meetings. Passive aggressive culture. This is the way we've always done it attitude. Rely on vendors to debug issues. Health care costs high.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview middle management, get rid of managers who are in their position simply due to longevity and those that violate policy. Allow employees to review their managers , instead of managers reviewing employees only.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of some of the managers....sounds like sour grapes but very true when you have a high turnover!

Outrageous sales goals and schedule

Personal Banker (Current Employee)

I have been working at Huntington National Bank part-time for less than a year

ProsGreat pay and benefits... Other than that I have nothing positive to say!

ConsWork long hours sometimes 6-10 days in a row. Not ideal for a person with a family!

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more positive and stop micro managing. Sales goals are hard to meet due to the market in certain areas. If management offered more assistant and positive reinforcement employee turnover would be lower and moral and sales goals higher.

A company that's trying... Yet fails

Process Specialist (Former Employee)
Columbus, OH (US)

I worked at Huntington National Bank full-time for less than a year

ProsHonestly I can't think of any.

ConsI started here one month ago, took a pay cut because my previous company was laying people off... Wow! First of all the hiring process is an absolute train wreck. Nobody communicates with one another.. When the on boarding recruiter called to offer me the job she didn't even know what position it was or what the pay was. Had to call me back because I asked to negotiate pay. Declined and said no, and offered me a flat 11$ an hour... Huge pay cut from my previous job.. I accepted only because it was temporary and full time... WOW. The people here are negative as could be. Everybody complains all day about how the company milks them for work to squeeze into an 8 hour day and when they can't yells about overtime. This company is broke and cannot afford to pay any overtime.
My second day here 3 coworkers cornered me and asked if I was a "narc" for the manager. Said "she gets all the new ones to be her narcs"... A bunch of bitter unpleasant people whom I have no interest being around. I got out within 4 weeks. Nobody treats each other with any respect and I was told on several occasions I could have no bathroom breaks until my lunch.... And my 30 minute unpaid lunch was the ONLY break I got in my 8 hour day. Barely any vacation time is offered and the benefits are AWFUL.

Advice to Senior ManagementTalk to your employees.. They are extremely unhappy and sad... I wanted absolutely nothing to do with this sad company.

Not a welcoming atmosphere

Store Banking Manager (Former Employee)
Cleveland, OH (US)

I worked at Huntington National Bank full-time for less than a year

ProsHuntington pays well...That is the only pro to working at this company.

Cons13 hour days, outrageous sales goals, Management works 75+hr work weeks, not a welcoming environment for a minority, corporate leadership team does not create an environment for personal or career growth. Huntington has more colleague turnover than any company I have ever worked for.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop treating your colleagues like they don't matter. When you create an environment that makes all colleagues feel welcomed and appreciated you will have a successful team with less turnover. Just think of all the money that can be saved by investing time into the employees that you already have instead of just hiring new employees every quarter to replace the ones that were never coached.

24 hour grace is not what is marketed to be.......

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Hamtramck, MI (US)

I have been working at Huntington National Bank full-time for more than 3 years

ProsTeam members become close, they have no choice, you need each others support to weather all the changes.

ConsTSM's are puppets. Reviews are almost non-existent. If you are a good employee, with high survey and quality scores and great sales, if HNB doesn't feel you are a good candidate to advance, they will find the most ridiculous "trap" and let you go. Good luck getting in touch with an HR rep, they are unavailable, constantly in "meetings". If you decide to work for HNB, be prepared to be spied on, work harder and not smarter, lie to customers and watch your incentive go down the drain. If you leave, whether under your own steam or are walked out, be prepared to lose the last 2 months of incentive you earned. Yes, all those sales for nothing.

Advice to Senior ManagementAnyone with a brain can tell that HNB is weathering poor earnings. Community involvement and media advertising are dwindling. Switch to real time banking and drop the loopholes and ridiculous idea of 24 hour grace. What income you lose in fees would be compensated by better reviews and overall customer satisfaction. What will you choose?

Sad...

Do Not Wish to Say (Former Employee)
Central, MI (US)

I worked at Huntington National Bank full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat employess, great customers, great accounts.

ConsFavortism, unethical behaviors, and poor management skills

Advice to Senior ManagementThe Branch managers spend little time there, almost never work a weekend and do things unethically. Branch managers are doing anything, and everything to try to hit quota's to the point of being unethical. IE. Changing a customers phone number in ESS in order to not receive a bad score on a Customer survey, or putting the customer on a do not call list.
Writing up employee A for a behavior but employee B does the same or worse and they do not get written up.

The interview and how the job was explained to me was different once i got there.

Branch Manager (Current Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA (US)

I have been working at Huntington National Bank full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat Benefits, 401k plan, nice monthly bonus

ConsBonus was never near what explained to me, hours were longer 50-55hrs, turn-over is high, senior leadership is trying to define a message, but when explained by direct management it is watered down with many opinions. (ie employees that have been there along time)

Advice to Senior ManagementHave talking points in writing when conveying messages to the company. Have the district managers show accountability by proving their branch receives the correct messages. Most branches do not listen to voice meetings and there is only 1 or 2 people listening. Then when conveying the message to their team it is watered down.
