Current Employee - Principal Engineer in Kings Langley, England

I have been working at Imagination Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

+ Growing company with lots of young engineers, good mix of young and experienced engineers
+ Depending upon which division you're in you'd be encouraged to challenge yourself and others to make contributions for the right reasons
+ Much less politics than some other organizations
+ If you're constructive, people like to listen to you
+ Gym options, sports and social, shares and stock options, private health insurance (free for the employee)
+ You're encouraged to say the truth and do the right thing, in some case you're rewarded for doing so

    Cons

+ Training and other processes are somewhat younger than other organizations, but then there is a concerted effort to make things better
+ Generally good with infrastructure, but in some cases have gone overboard with styling and architecture and less focus on providing some essentials such as whiteboards
+ No talent recognition system, no plans to make sure the best employees get rewarded and the not so good ones managed out
+ No individual bonuses to a vast majority of employees
+ Salaries could be better given the proximity to London and cost of living

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

+ Think about employee retention a bit more
+ Have a talent recognition system
+ Prune the dead wood out

Top notch graphics knowledge but somewhat demeaning compensation

I have been working at Imagination Technologies full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

For the short stay I have had until now with the company I'm more satisfied then not. Mainly because as a young engineer I'm seeking to gain knowledge over money.
The company gives a unique work experience, it is a top dog on the mobile graphics market. The work tasks are very complex and require a certain amount of time to be spent before even starting doing something as easy as changing one line of code.
People are in general very helpful and most of the senior and principal guys aren't afraid of sharing the Do's and Don'ts.
Work and life balance is also very good - no white nights, no excessive extra hours spend after work.
In general very good company for new comers like me to learn, give back and create valuable relationships and connections.

    Cons

The management and hierarchical system is very chaotic and without any basic goals to be obtained before stepping up the ladder. In other words you can receive very good appraisals but be stuck at a position for many years just because your personal manager doesn't stick up to you or don't know how to play the office managerial politics game.
Salaries are bellow the average for the sector and the company knows it. They also know that the work is very complex but also if you have the passion for graphics hardware or software you don't really have that many options.
In general a demotivating environment for old employees who work a lot but don't shout it out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give clear objectives how and when people should progress. It can be really demotivating for a senior employee to see how the company at least on the side seem to cherish more the new comers. And I'm saying that from the position of a new comer.
Maybe include a bonus system so teams that do great are rewarded appropriately.
Obviously salary increases to at least follow the industry average would be nice too.

    Pros

Friendly environment with people really passionate about their work. Plenty of variety day-to-day and you never feel without a challenge. Great transport links, easily commutable from London.

    Cons

Salary increases are sometimes unclear and perhaps a little less than competitive with similar jobs. Career progression can also be somewhat of an unknown.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Doing a great job, keep it up.

I worked at Imagination Technologies as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Friendly and supported atmosphere, social events and as treat Wednesdays, and the food at the canteen was surprisingly good as well.

    Cons

The pay is fairly poor for their competitors and they do expect you to work hard, but that is reasonable.

    Pros

Excellent team work environment (at least in my office)
Company with strong leading presence in the market
Opportunity to work with current and next generation graphics

    Cons

Pay increase not properly explained, shares scheme takes too long and not currently paying out, job opportunity seemed exciting but turned out into boring projects most of the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Clarify pay increase

I have been working at Imagination Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The open environment amongst engineers together with the breadth of activity provides a technically exciting atmosphere. Technical discussions are easy and information can be sought from other parts of the company with no barrier. Any active interest is never discouraged.
There are many able and skilled engineers.
The new building is excellent, furnished to a high standard. The canteen provides good quality food with a lot of variety.

    Cons

The open culture between engineers is adapting to change due to expansion. The company has expanded rapidly and some of the infrastructure is still adapting. The expansion makes career paths somewhat unclear however it does provide opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As the company expands, be sure not to lose sight of the many great engineers working for you.

I have been working at Imagination Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Friendly people, exciting company philosophy, it is really interesting to work there. The company is leader on the GPU for mobiles market, and so the projects are amazing. Not too much pressure from the hierarchy, we can feel really involved in the company achievements.

    Cons

Salary is really low, compared to the market rate. Benefits are quite low: share awards are really unfair as you are not even sure to get a bonus. Health insurance is just basic and could be way better.
The location is not great but not bad either, nothing to do about it.
