I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Staff discount was a bonus, beyond that I honestly couldn't name another pro and I'm just typing this to meet the minimum word count

    Cons

I was not 'one of the lads' and I was unfairly treated and cast out/looked down upon by many people there for it. I was treated unfairly whilst working there when I refused to do additional hours because I had already had stuff planned and to top it off I found out I was getting let go by looking at the staff timetable and not seeing my name on there as opposed to at least one person coming up to tell me in person

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The newest store in Southampton was run well but the majority of the staff there are awful people and can't seem to interact with anyone who matches up with their lifestyle and ideologies. 0/10 would not consider working for the company again.

    its a job nothing else

    Cons

management treat staff in a disgusting manner. if you want to get on you have to creep to the managers. avoid the hr dept they are evil. if you have self respect please avoid this awfull company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of procedures to keep your job safe. Lots of training , resources and support from Helpdesks.

    Cons

Always understaffed. Tons of paperwork. Impossible timelines. Work life balance very poor. Company cares about money not people at all. Too much thieving due to generous budgets and lack of control as everyone is too busy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotion good up to Deputy. Play politics works better than hard work.

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

i have worked for over 10 years for this company and under 20, and store has gone through lots of changes one being doubling in size, now on outside windows as car deck took over the front, have some great people i work with, not that u get to talk to them as the shifts i do are the quick turn around type of shoppers, in ,pay ,out. Join the Union

    Cons

when things go wrong which they do the management do not back you, not sure if the same as in every store but this one management can't make waves as too many family members working within store in high profile places ..ie store manager has child in store and wife in HR (so no chance of bringing a complaint). they always take the sides of the customer, even when they are abusive, verbally and physically, i did enjoy working here but now feel unable to carry on,so good i did join the union as they fought my case and i won!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

no more family getting jobs that are never advertised in store or elsewhere, give others a chance. stand up for the staff, head office is just that a office where they don't know how the other half work, i know i have been there, fantastic canteen unlike store where there is a vending machine with just choc/crisps really healthy for a days work, the staff are humans first and staff second, most have outside lives.

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Theres not many, technically being an online driver could be a great job. Driving round, seeing customers etc, but Sainsbury's ruin it
Only cons are 10% discount and a bonus, but that only comes down to if you do well on mystery customers.

    Cons

Where to start. How about the management - They don't care about you as a person, all they care about is the department is making money and their shifts are covered. They are never flexible with you but you have to be VERY flexible with them.
You have to tell them if theres extra days you can work, there no simple 9-5 job here. It can range from 7 in the morning until 11 at night. You loose all your social life and can never plan to do anything in advance incase your normal 'day off' becomes your flexi day that they make your work!
Then the other thing I hate, 99% of the time your doing a good job but get no thanks. Do one thing wrong you never hear the end of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop taking our time away without giving anything back
    Make drivers feel appreciated

I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Discount card, I suppose. Handy when it goes up to 15/20% but they always conveniently put it up when we get paid.

    Cons

Lazy team leaders and a manager that is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Ridiculously understaffed and they can't even be bothered to train anyone up properly. Everyone is more concerned with kissing each others backside and the rest of us (the ones who actually work unlike the supposed team leaders) get spoken to like dirt and get told 'tough' when put down for a shift we don't agree to (we're contracted days and times Mr manager so it's 'tough' for you). Too much stress for too little reward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually do some work for the first time in your life.

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Great flexibility with regards to hours and switching shifts.
    - Strong collegial atmosphere (but this can vary wildly depending on which store you work at).

    Cons

    - Severe lack of appreciation from senior management which removes any incentive to work any harder than required.
    - Development opportunities are virtually nonexistent.
    - Quality of training is so poor that I sometimes wonder why they even bother to do it.
    - Problem employees are not dealt with quick enough.
    - Work is very repetitive (but that is to be expected in this line of work)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more appreciation for hardworking colleagues whilst swiftly dealing with those that cause problems within the team.

I worked at J Sainsbury as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

There are probably more pro's working in an Indian sweatshop for a bowl of soup.

    Cons

There are lots of cons, but don't think there would be enough space here to list them all.. Here's a few - They work you like a dog and treat you like something they'd wipe off their shoes.
The team leaders and managers skulk round the isles and watch every move you make.. the Rockwell song somebody's watching me should be their theme tune.. wouldn't surprise me if they had camera's in the bogs, timing how long you took to take a dump!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should quit Sainsburys and join the prison service.. I'm sure wormwood scrubs would benefit from your management style.
