    Pros

Good discounts on own shopping. Flexible hours available, to be taken over both night and day shifts. Cashiers have little responsibilities in thier role.

    Cons

Duties are boring: scanning goods through tills, watching customers scan thier own goods, stacking shelves, stocktaking, etc. Wages often calculated wrong. Minimal training in transferable skills.

    Advice to Management

Cashiers could benefit from better training.

    Pros

Some of the Pro's for working for J Sainsbury would be:-
    - Colleague Discount (Base Value 10%. Can raise to 15 / 20% due high business times like Easter & Christmas)
    - Extra Colleague Discounts (Including companies like Virgin Holidays, Virgin Experience Days, Thomas Cook, HomeBase, B&Q, Vauxhall and over 500 more!)
    - Sick Pay

    Cons

Some of the Cons of working for J Sainsbury:-
    - Lack of Management Structure (Too many managers for small teams)
    - Lack of Communication around the business especially from Projects
    - Lack of career progression unless your willing to relocate
    - Aggressive behavior from colleagues which Management turn a blind eye to
    - Working Hours ( 6am - 7pm ) - Our team should only support the core business hours ( 8am - 6pm )

    Advice to Management

    - Better communication as a whole
    - Stick to promises
    - Create a better atmosphere as morale is low

    Non complicated interview process

    Cons

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, and good potential for overtime and promotion.
All my superiors are good, always able to fit in time to deal with any issues or queries in a professional and thoughtful manner.
    Simple but satisfying work.
    Staff discount after 6 months.

    Cons

Open until late so attracts unruly customers, whether stealing or displaying aggresive behaviour.
There is capacity for improvement regarding store culture. Generally speaking, I get on very well with my collegeagues who are cheerful and hard working. Sadly, a couple employees demonstrated strongly racist attitudes in my presence, failing to realise my multi-cultural background.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, I find the job itself enjoyable.
However, without a security gaurd present, at times I feel unsafe.
Store culture must be improved regarding racism. This is very disheartening.

    Pros

    -Flexible Shifts
    -Opportunities to move departments
    -Friendly colleagues
    -Overtime always available

    Cons

-No opportunity to improve unless your mother/father/friend/some other relative is a manager or knows a manager, OR you do some major sucking up/sleeping around. If either of those applies to you, you don't need to be good at your job to get a promotion.
-Overtime is still paid at the standard hourly rate
    - Store managers generally have no idea about each individual department and don't listen to department managers, which ends in colleagues doing pointless tasks which don't improve sales and are unpopular with customers and colleagues.
-Head office implement rules to each store and it's a one size fits all policy. It doesn't work and it fails to acknowledge the diversity of it's customers and colleagues.

    Advice to Management

-Stop enforcing the same rules for each region/store, treat each location as an individual
-Do not allow colleagues with relatives and friends in management become team leaders/managers in that store, if they want to advance they should be moved stores to ensure it is not just handed to them on a plate.
-Stop rewarding idiotic customers who complain and lie about innocent colleagues just so they can get a freebie, use common sense in these scenarios instead of rewarding them for their stupidity.
-Change MCM rules dependent on store - it is ridiculous that the same rules apply to all stores when all are entirely different.
-Stop allowing your store managers to humiliate and bully colleagues, I don't care how much money you pay them, it doesn't give them the right to speak to anyone like they're a piece of crap.
