Employees in my department didn't speak to the interns
not enough legitimate work for interns.

    Pros

    - HR team made the interns feel welcomed
    - learning opportunities outside of your area of interest/internship responsibilities
    - talented staff
    - work/life balance seems good

    Cons

    - people are too busy to talk/teach you things
    - couldn't tell if people were actually happy to be working there

    Advice to Management

Don't treat your interns as people who do your work for you, instead actually take the time to get to know them and mentor them. An internship is a two way street. It would be nice to compensate the interns too - unpaid internships are unjust in so many ways.

    Pros

Cool company vision, central location in NYC, varied creative departments and channels within network, occasional celebrity sightings in office

    Cons

Unpaid internship, unstructured intern training/events, too many students to accommodate for (500 interns/semester), lack of day to day work, difficult to get full time hire after internship

    Advice to Management

Take the time to mentor interns rather than just give them leftover managerial work to do

    Pros

    -Resume Builder
    -Bagel Thursdays
-Staff that remembers you for later hire

    Cons

-You almost never have contact with anyone above a coordinator... unless they love you
    -Really mundane tasks
-Unlike some internships, they make you get them food almost every lunch time.

    Advice to Management

Give the interns more to do

    Pros

I was an intern, but this is what I observed:

    -Laid back environment
    -Casual attire
    -Looks great on a resume
-Nice people for the most part

    Cons

-MTV is huge so you feel like a number
-WAY too much a$$ kissing (not my style)
-Located in an annoying spot (Times Square)
-Does not guarantee you a job when you finish your internship

    Advice to Management

-Listen more to ideas of the people working under you
-Become more in touch with the company's younger targeted audience

  7. I loved the culture and the variety of tasks at hand.

    Pros

    Great work life balance
    Great perks
Access to events and episodes before public

    Cons

    Not noticed easily
    Unpaid
Some of the staff very cold and unbothered

    Advice to Management

Give your interns more guidance with their career paths, be more honest about how competitive it is to get a job there.

    Pros

Fun, hip and modern work place with a young demographic. Dress is casual and people seem interested in meeting others. Easy to be hired as an intern.

    Cons

Little mobility within the company and limited benefits turn me off from this company. The atmosphere, while fun, can seem a bit unprofessional at times.

    Pros

    - Looks great on a resume
    - Get to work for well known networks
    - People are friendly for the most part

    Cons

MTV takes advantage of all the free labor they can get. It is super easy to get an intern position at MTVN, but once you graduate, forget about getting hired there. The useless "internship seminars" are just in place to make it seem like they are interested in watching you grow into a prospective MTV employee. It's all phony. Don't waste your time. Seek a better internship elsewhere where you actually have a chance of getting hired after graduation. I honestly think they post fake positions on the career site just to keep the HR recruiters busy. Ridiculous.
