    I have been working at Marsh full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great resources and lots of knowledgeable people. A Who's Who of clients. Very strong and leading with large global/complex accounts. Specialty side of business is awesome with great brokers who really give it their all. Some managers (specialty) are tireless and give their life to the business and their team.

    Cons

    Extremely expense reduction focused. At least annual reductions in staff (sometimes 2x a year)... tend to stay around 70-80 so not published and these are not just low performers... often these are masked as position elimination but they craft a 'new' position and adjust responsibilities to get by. Also, extremely internally focused despite great external efforts of many colleagues moving ahead. Several senior managers are self-preservation experts and promoters, at the expense of others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen without retribution and respect different views, not just people saying what they think you want to hear. Employees are not disposable resources.

    Pros

    Fair compensation. Quite a few knowledgeable and friendly colleagues. Nice, modern offices in Tower Place, London.

    Cons

    Very political environment. Few career development opportunities. Need to constantly fight for yourself / what you believe in. Poor team spirit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Assess and reward people based on their actual performance, not solely what their manager thinks. Do not allow / support bullying practices in the workplace.

    Pros

    Largest insurance broker. Specialized knowledge.

    Cons

    Benefits were once one of the best in the industry but becoming very expensive as of Jan 2015 and with little or no pay raises, pay is actually declining. Parking rates increasing. Huge push for more sales and asked to do more than ever. Client advisors are micromanaged even though they are exempt. Lots of recent turnover. Dinosaur technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take care of your employees. Give advisors the help they need to get the job done. Too many manager meetings with no real results. Be truthful, it goes a long way.

    Pros

    Good money, not a super high-pressure environment. You can stay there forever. On a bad day, it's like a pretty cool purgatory.

    Cons

    Unsexy, lots of cold calls, insurance industry is not that exciting. My boss looks like a greasy quaalude dealer from Long Island in the 1970s.

    Pros

    Coworkers in my group are great in my group. Job stability.

    Cons

    Management is an old boys club. Unless you're a producer, don't expect an increase or bonus (no one seems to know how bonuses are calculated. Very heavy workload, no work life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop the talent flight. Those who can leave do. When the company keeps reporting record profits, it's hard to justify no increases, and token bonuses. Stop saying our colleagues are our greatest assets...actions speak louder than lip service.

    The pay was good and vacation days were standard.

    Cons

    Management is awful, people running around with a VP status that really just proves you stuck it out for too long at this company. Everything is based on tenure, not how hard you worked or much you accomplished. Disapointing.
