I have been working at McAfee

    Pros

    Flexible working hours
Working with smart people and good technologies

    Cons

Once you join don't expect your salary to rise by much no matter how good you are. After a couple of years other companies are more competitive which makes it very tempting to leave.
Very inexperienced people managers don't know how to treat employees and keep moral high.
Constant fire fighting and a short term view on everything.
Constant reorgs make people less productive.
    Experience is not valued.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Long term decisions about structure of teams and policy need to be taken and stuck to. Constant changes make people want to give up. It takes time for an organisation to settle and become fully productive. If you keep changing and moving it will never get there.
Pay your employees what they are worth. How much will it cost to hire and train a replacement? Again a longer term view needed!!

I have been working at McAfee

    Pros

    Great people and products

    Cons

Lack of diversity in opportunities, salary inequity and persistent discrimination against women make it a difficult place if you are female.
If you are looking for work life balance do not come to this company.

    I worked at McAfee

    Pros

Snacks provided in the office, a lot of friendly staff and colleagues.

    Cons

It's a very Sales Oriented place - we all know how the sales types are. Pay was disappointing - for McAfee to be considered a 'Great place to work' you'd expect them to pay better than the national standards. The culture at McAfee is a unique one. They want you to be how you are at home, at work - it can get uncomfortable, especially when every second word is the F word and/or C word. The culture is very relaxed and not really corporate at all - a lot of the APAC directors are self entitled because of McAfee's position in the 'Great Place To Work' classification. This blinds them to a lot of flaws. Being an outsider coming into the business, you'll realise that these people are always on such a high because of this and depending on their position and/or years of service to the company , McAfee has a lot of staff who demand respect without giving it - it's disgusting. Don't expect new ideas or suggestion to be taken into consideration, not until you've earned your right to talk at the round table. - rolls eyes
Expect this if you think of joining them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on REAL Employee engagement - you have this confused with giving too much freedom to staff - you don't see how a lot of staff take advantage of this. HR team needs a re-boot. Start focusing on your flaws. Stop ignoring them because of all the industry awards given to McAfee. People are too afraid to tell you guys what they really think .

    Pros

None to think of. Although they say its a great place to work. The reality is if you dont fit into the mold then you are ostracized.

    Cons

Male management team are very arrogant and elitist. Most of the sales staff are scared of speaking up in fear of losing their job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Real tranperancy would be good. It's in the action not in the words.

Current Employee - Internal Sales Representative in Cork (Ireland)

I have been working at McAfee full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Decent company to start your IT career if you are a graduate but don't stay too long.

    Cons

The fluctuation of staff is extremelly high, sometimes people are dissapearing from the floor after just 1-2 months in the company. Everyone just stops making the effort to learn the names of their new collegues or say hello to each other. Professionalism and politeness are optional in McAfee Cork. There is low investment in people, poor salary, no career progession plan, salaries are not reviewed every year. People working for 3 years whith the exact amount offered to them in the fist work day. There are no team events.

Because the recruitment process takes longer than the usual norm, there's a big period between a person leaving and finding a replacement. For the new comer the start is sharp to say the least, with no help from the manager or team members. I would suggest you ask at interview for how long your position has been with no incumbent to give you an idea of the backlog. Expect to be given a sales quote in day one, with no pipe line created. Expect afterwards to be requested to make up for the sales missing during the year while your job position was empty.

You are hoping to join a cool IT company and what you find coming to Cork it's this outdated call center with 1990 management style and TV screens mounted on the wall monitoring your calls. Absolutely all jobs in Cork are telesales whether called ISR, iCAM, LDR, you will have a telesales job and be treated like a telesales. Because of the unfriendly and unsupportive environment that is evident througout McAfee in Cork, the change of location and culture makes is relatively stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some so called loyal employees who have been working in Cork for 2-3 years are there because they've developed the art of not working at work, amounting cigarette breaks longer than their working hours.

Maybe you should review everyones jobs and distribute workload equally, it's not fair to increase sales quota for new employees constantly, but accept with no problem the underporming explanations, blaming the market and economic crise, from older employees who have just learnt to sweet talk to the management.

Top management should check why lots of middle managers reward through preference and not merit. Maybe then people will not be running out of McAfee with the high speed they do now.

I worked at McAfee full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to learn enterprise products and experience the corporate environment

    Cons

    Cronyism and lots of opportunities
For growth through having outside-of-the-office relationships with decision makers.
Terrible work environment and sales and techs that buddy up can not meet their quotas and keep their position and get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Join the buddy system and do everything what upper mgmt wants. Dont feel sorry about other people being treated unfairly to be successful.
