I have been working at Microsoft as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    - While many people thought Microsoft environment is not very friendly for new employee, I found it very friendly and full of new opportunities to explore.
    - They took very good care of Interns by providing subsidizing housing and car rental, plus many exciting events.
    - I was working with the Bing section, and there are many unexplored areas in Bing which can be a great opportunity to make significant contributions.

    Cons

    - In comparison with companies such as Google, there are way less PhDs in the staff which sometimes make it harder to introduce radical research ideas.
    - The company went to a massive lay-off when I was there. Although that obviously don't affect interns, if you are considering Microsoft for a full-time position, there are risks that one of these lay-off waves hit you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Have better collaboration with researchers in MSR. Microsoft is lucky to have such brilliant scholars as part of MSR and if their creativity can be managed well, they can make huge contributions to the company.
    - Start more active programs of Fellowships for grad students, same as Google and Facebook, to enhance the picture of company and attract better talents.

A lot of excellent researchers here. Here you can work with some of the best researchers in your area in the world.

    Cons

Nothing obvious as for an intern.

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

all things are well scheduled and regular meetings are hold. All things are doing step by step and finally successfully finish.

    Cons

There is no individual heroism, what works is the system, not a specific employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the entry software more challenges to help them grow.

I worked at Microsoft as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Focus on research projects, renowned researchers, well-designed intern programs, many opportunities working with very famous researchers. Researchers can extract papers from your projects even if they are not much successful.

    Cons

Even though you showed good performance, the company does not given any offer. You can only obtain publication, chances to expand your research connections, and some salary (which is slightly better than other companies).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Very flexible, free, you may work at home, and you can work in anywhere you want.

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Pay, stability, work/life balance (big corp, not held too accountable for much), Seattle-based, working with some tech legends

    Cons

Lack of culture, feels stale, they're changing things up but there's only a few groups that have a great culture and you have to know what you want beforehand to get yourself there. Little impact, waterfall methods. Median age 40+

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

+ Lots of opportunities to participate in big projects
+ Get to work with people around the globe
    + Great pay
+ Unique opportunity to see the hundreds of careers that are out there !

    Cons

    - There is not a well structured plan for interns
    - You need to look for other projects to learn more, as an intern you're underestimated and your tasks will be somewhat limited or "easy"
    - Several managers intervene with your activities and responsibilities which is confusing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Define a plan for interns and do not underestimate them !

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Great company to have on your resume. Very supportive co-workers, lots of opportunity for growth, and always something exciting to work on.

    Cons

At times I feel out of the loop on a lot of things, which makes it difficult to do my job. A few internal services don't always work, and some subscriptions literally took a year for me to receive (employee MSDN).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on keeping on. The company is heading in the right direction, the values are solid, just need to keep working at it and improve the little things.

I worked at Microsoft as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Microsoft is located in Redmond, WA where you can have really nice weather during the summer. There are tons of nice and stimulating people in Microsoft, and tons of projects that are stimulating, challenging, and fun. I liked the food at the food court; there are diversity from pasta and burgers to pad thai and pho. You will absolutely love your experience at Microsoft. Plus, free sodas all the time.

    Cons

There are not so many cons about working at Microsoft as an intern. But it is well known that their management somehow does not always work well; teams could be in a not-so-good relationship with other teams and all.
