    Set you up for failure and lots of yawning

    ConsNo one cares to bring you up to speed, eventually setting you up for failure. It's impossible to take initiative in anything because there is no creativity here. Management goes through the motions, but could care less about you as a person. Everything feels so shallow and unimportant. Feels like everyone hates their job.

    Advice to Senior ManagementDon't set people up for failure who would have otherwise been great assets. Get to know your employees more. Seem like you are happy to be here.

    Great Idea Bad Exicution

    ProsMyriad is patient centered company where they really do try to make sure that they are giving the best product that they can.

    ConsLack of advancement and work/life balance for all. If you are an upper level employee Manager and above then you have it good. If you are below that level you are often at the whim of those above you. Mandatory OT and hiring Temps all the time rather than proper staffing so people can take time off. Almost never promotes from within unless you are a favorite. The revolving door of upper level managers Directors and VP's that are higher from outside that stay just long enough to find something better or send there time alienating other employees that have been here and know how to do there Jobs. Company Culture is all about making a buck as cheap as possible end of quarters usually end with holding back samples so that we don't out do what wall street wants. I would have left if I did not care about the patients and the economy was better.

    Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on internal development of employees they will stay longer and be happier also stop playing favorites. Peters principle is definitely in effect here. I know I am tired of being treated like a Mushroom if you know what I mean. Clear leadership from Pete M. and Mark C would be nice as well. MBOs would be great if they were based on something other then getting my VP there raise for the year while I see mine shrink every year as profits go up.

    Decent, but you can likely find better

    ProsGood coworkers, supervisors are nice

    ConsStarting out with no benefits for 6 months and then having lower than average pay makes you feel cheated, especially for how hard they work you. No paid holidays, no paid time off as well until your 6 months are up. They treat temps rather poorly

    Advice to Senior Management6 month contract work makes you feel like you're not a part of the company and they don't really care about you

    Profit-driven company who cares little about its employees

    ProsExperience in healthcare which may prepare one for somewhere better down the road.

    ConsThe workers are under-compensated and do not get enough credit for their work. They have demanding job duties and are often required to work overtime on weekends to meet deadlines so they can maintain Myriad's claim to fame: Their turnaround times.

    There many unethical business practices and politics of this company, which are not to be discussed, create an awkward "elephant in the room" among employees.

    Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees like people and not machines. Reward them for hard work. Your profit is heavily dependent on their happiness and motivation.

    Reactive company that does not live up to leadership promise.

    ConsVery reactive organization. More and more like big pharma, vastly inconsistent in management expectations, must be part of "boys club" to move up. Lack of required skills and experience to succeed in many of the leaders in HQ

    Advice to Senior ManagementYour people are your greatest asset, figure out a way to have consistent measures of performance and business management. Your RDs don't have a clue what the definition of leadership is. They are glorified sales reps and analysts with a director title.

    Management doesn't care to retain or train.

    Lab Technician II (Current Employee) Salt Lake City, UT (US)

    ProsYou want a short term job before moving on, or you are looking to start in biotechnology and are looking for extra training.

    ConsManagement doesn't care about employees. The pay raises are minimal and are based upon a bell curve. There is not pay for performance. About 6 months ago my lab began forcing overtime on the employees. They called it "mandatory overtime". Insensitive, underhanded polices like this are rampant throughout the company.

    Five Years Ago, This Was a Great Company to Work For

    Oncology Sales (Current Employee)

    ProsThis is a job that becomes your life if you let it...with these kind of products, you can look at yourself in the mirror everyday and really believe that you are saving people from getting cancer. That alone was the reason I took a sales position pay cut to come here.

    If you are a stellar sales person, and liked by your manager, you have the opportunity to get recognized and move up. President's Club trips are great, and if you have a great supportive manager, you have opportunities year-round to shine!

    ConsPay is low compared to other oncology sales positions. They insinuate that there is no ceiling for commission, but out of the 6 years I have been here, there have been at least 3 years where the commission has been negligible due to the company's base commission amount.

    A big reason I also came to Myriad was the "small company" feel to it. Your ideas and voice could be heard, Mark Capone knew you by name and we prided ourselves on not being Big Pharma. That has all changed. You never hear from upper management, everything is now officially passed down the ranks. The family feel we once had has been replaced with Big Pharma who only care about looking good and checking the boxes. It is really, really sad.

    Advice to Senior ManagementIf I actually thought they read these reviews, I could write a whole page here. I would ask them to think long and hard about the kind of people they have put in upper management lately. My manager is always stressed out and putting out fires because of the latest string of stupidity they are made to do. They have no time to be in the field with us because they are flying to SLC every two weeks for another meeting. I worry that the company has spent so much time convincing everyone that they have made such great leadership choices that they will spend the next five years defending each of them when they run the sales force into the ground.

    You will continue to not only lose good people, but gain the reputation of not paying your people a competitive salary if the pay structure isn't addressed. Compensation adjustments like the ONE the company did a few years ago was laughable, and while many of us who have been with the company a long time feel pressure and loyalty to stay, it's really hard when others in your field are making $40-$50 more a year consistently. When someone gets promoted, give them a REAL salary bump...not just a token one and a title change.

    ConsIt is a good ol boy community. Sadly, have seen management break employee handbook regulations with no reprimand as long as sales are there.

    Advice to Senior ManagementNo need to offer advice, they would not give it any consideration anyway.
