I worked at PPL full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary and vacation time are good

    Cons

Leadership has no prior experience, promotion based on popularity.qualifications are sadly over looked, especially at field manager lever.seems the worst employees have been given this role with little knowledge of actual work or skill in managing emoyees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire yourselves , let peco take over and run the company they way it needs to be run.

Current Employee - Intern/Co-op in Allentown, PA (US)

I have been working at PPL as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

There are plenty of opportunities as an intern to meet with senior level management, take professional development seminars and work on significant projects that add to your professional story and that will make you very marketable when apply to full time positions. Wonderful company culture, everyone is extremely helpful and want you to succeed

    Cons

The location is in Allentown, not a very good area. Some interns complained of not having enough to do. There is an older workforce but that will lead to more opportunities for younger employees as a lot of the older employees will begin to retire.

I have been working at PPL full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, great opportunities to try different jobs across different parts of the org., a lot of upward opportunity over the long-term, a great place to develop a command of the energy sector if interested.

    Cons

Somewhat "command & control" culture (it will be some time before a culture of employee empowerment is estabished), lack of innovation (but remember, it isn't google), culture still feels very "baby boomerish" (and I am one), some departments are very "get it done," even at the expense of the long-term (but not a universal problem).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As workforce ages out, culture will need to adjust with demands of a younger work force, keep this in mind. Also, leverage the creativity of younger staff to drive technology and process advancement

I worked at PPL full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

LG&E and Kentucky Utilities is a great company to work for. They have good benefits, and a great work environment. They really want their employees to grow with the company. It was like a second family, and I enjoyed going into work each day.

    Cons

There are growth opportunities, but very few. I have seen many employee that where trying to move up in the company you have to leave, work somewhere else, and then get hired on in a different position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company provides great learning opportunities. This company takes great pride in what they do and they care about the thought and concerns of their customers.

I worked at PPL as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

PPL is expanding their career opportunities due to a retiring workforce. The company is very stable, offering a lot of job security. Benefits are good. Everyone is friendly. There is a lot of flexibility for lateral and vertical job changes within the company.

    Cons

Not the place to be if you're looking to work on cutting edge projects as an engineer. There is a lot of following of procedure, and not much original design work.

    Pros

Excellent job security, great benefits, large company with room for both vertical and lateral moves, effort is rewarded

    Cons

Like all large companies, they are conservative and can tend to be process-bound

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try your best to identify areas where we can simplify and speed up workflows. Endeavor to increase rewards for effort and not just longevity. Continue your policy of encouraging personal and workplace safety.
