Growing company, great programming, well known brand

    Manager (Former Employee)

ProsGreat corporate culture with dedicated, hardworking employees. Growing international presence through acquisition and strategy. People are excited about the shows that are on air.

ConsDifficult to get promoted. As with any large company, change is cumbersome and slow.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great company but no room for growth if you are a coordinator/assistant

Coordinator (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsLoved AMCN. Super friendly environment, you work hard and they reward you well, they make you feel appreciated which is awesome and rare. I loved it there and my boss was a great mentor and still is to this day.

ConsIf you are a coordinator, it is difficult to grow. The execs have been there for years and years and don't really move from there. A lot of people end up leaving to grow elsewhere. My starting salary as a manager at a different network was well more over some managers that were at AMCN for years.

    Overall positive

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsWork closely (proximity) with senior management. Nice non-pretentious open door policy. Friendly atmosphere. Very understanding of work/life balance.

ConsMany stagnant employees on all levels makes it difficult to move up as there are not many job openings. Some clash between departments.

    Traditional corporate structure

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat benefits, Good work-life balance, television shows produced are high quality

ConsVery hierarchical structure. Unless you're top management your opinion doesn't matter.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a bigger interest in employee development - good people work for you.

    Great Place to Work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsHard working staff, high expectations that equal great results, approachable upper management, excellent benefits and perks. For the most part, most everyone is willing to teach you if you're looking to learn.

ConsSome big egos in middle management, can have some damaging office politics and sometimes very "clique-y". If someone doesn't like you personally, some people have a hard time putting that dislike aside and therefor some people are treated differently.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou do a great job of being approachable. The company is successful because of the clear goals you have set.

My experience at Rainbow Media was enjoyable.

Promo Coordinator (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsThe generally environment was professional and friendly. New ideas were always welcomed and encouraged. Coworkers shared the same goals and worked as a team.

ConsMy position was freelance and should have been made a staff position.

Wonderful and friendly Atmosphere at AMC Networks

Research Associate (Current Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsI work for AMC Networks part-time and it's a very friendly atmosphere. All the tools you need to succeed are handed to you on a silver platter. Even has a nobody I had my own office (extremely glorified cubical; image an office with no window). Very comfortable hours too.

ConsVery large company and Rainbow Media owns several departments that don't intermingle (except at the top). Not really a con but it's the closest thing I can think of. Especially since each floor is newly renovated (as of spring 2012).
