I worked at SunGard as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Free breakfast on a Friday, global experience, looks good on your CV. Some very interesting clients. Lots of FTSE 100 company's and Fortune 500 client exposure.

    Cons

Micromanaging to the extreme from the US and tactical. There was no strategic thinking. Heavily sales focused. Before joining I looked at the reviews on glassdoor and ignored the advice given. If you are a focused seasoned professional do not join this company as you will regret it. The US heavily micromanage and do not appreciate professionals who are qualified in their field of expertise. It's tactical fantastic, think about today and not tomorrow. Very political, only the US are looked after. Outside of the US different rules apply and you have no say or opinion. If you challenge the US or voice an opinion you will be viewed as a threat to the US who do not have a clue about strategy and are behind the times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the deadwood and the yes men. Review your employee Retention and the reasons why there is a high turnover of good experienced staff.

Awful Company to Be Acquired By (Alternative Investments)

I have been working at SunGard

    Pros

Idiotic senior management makes you feel superior in every way.

    Cons

Sungard Alternative Investments is run like a closed shop for the friends of the president of the unit (who are mysteriously all of the same religion). The managers seem to do very nicely out of SG but add little to no value the businesses they acquire - anyone else who is doing well out of it is open for the attack to add to the friend retirement fund. My company was a fantastic one to work for before Sg took it over. The president and COO screwed up the valuation by a factor of about 2 and since then they just keep chopping people to make the quarterly figures look better. How the president and COO are holding on to their jobs I do not know, but that is the kind of firm it is - everyone is to blame except the management. If there's a problem blame someone else and fire them. Sungard Alternative Investments is and awful unit of an awful company - if they acquire your company start looking for a new job because if they don't fire you, you are the unlucky one!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

start respecting the people who made the companies you buy worth buying. Actually talk to the people in those companies and bring them on side, rather than treating them like idiots.

Sales People Treated like "Pawns" towards The Management's Quota and Club Reservations

Current Employee - Senior Sales Executive  in  New York, NY (US)
Current Employee - Senior Sales Executive in New York, NY (US)

I have been working at SunGard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They serve Starbucks coffee...and have a nice surplus of legal pads and pens.

    Cons

Sales Compensation and Quotas are not in line with the Industry trends and the "solution selling" messaging the company subscribes to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to actually listen to the Sales People on what is going on and work accordingly to streamline instead of making "gut" like decisions or picking favorites when driving opportunities.

I have been working at SunGard full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some of the folks that work at Sungard are enjoyable to work with. The hours when employed were nice and convenient.

    Cons

The Management is absolutely heartless. When Sungard acquired Comdisco, they of course promised the world. They decided to fire people the week before christmas. Made a comment to my manager which he didn't like. F' him. I hate this place.

    Pros

Staff was kept when EIM was purchased
    Family feeling
Upper Management tried to keep us positive
    Very team focused
    Great PM's

    Cons

Seem to buy small profitable companies, bleed them of resources, layoff all staff and shut company down
    HR not effective
Deals were hampered with clients because by accounting because of meeting revenue quota's and ownership of source code
Farmed many jobs to India reducing staff in North America and UK

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with staff - they are on the front lines with the clients and understand the needs and wants
