    Pros

Good employer, looks after your health

    Cons

Being an American Automotive firm will always mean a meagre salary, fewer benefits and the sound of constant whingeing from people who have been there a long time (fewer benefits, no pay rises, loss of perks, moral etc)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fewer meetings and more decision making!

    Cons

Not hesitant on giving more work but not reflecting it in pay.
    HR is slow to act
    Last minute pay freeze

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is a two way system, you compensate more, you'll get more from the employees

I worked at TRW Automotive full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great range of product and in general very good people with talent and comittment, ground level folks including mid managers are in the main very sound.

    Cons

Highly political, lots of in fighting CEO is hire and fire has poor relationship with his key team. HR lead some silly initiatives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your people are your greatest asset and you have lost large numbers of people that were once loyal, the problem starts with the CEO ... a genius but has no people skills and micromanages and drives infighting and insecurity. It could be a better company, even a great company and generate even more profits. That said is still has some tremendous people - it needs to keep them.

    Pros

Overall a good company to work. A pleasant working place with many talent people, nice diversity culture, dynamic environment, face challenge everyday...

    Cons

Management is kind of chaos at this transition time, too profit driven, not sure what will happen next after join ZF...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need better coordination between different departments, related teams need to talk to each other when doing the same project. Communication, communication, communication...

    Pros

    Great employee culture
    Secure customer base
    Seasoned / high tenure workforce

    Cons

    Little room for advancement
High performing plants "lumped" in with poor division

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Deep dive into the performance metrics before making cuts division-wide - specifically relating to commercial steering systems

I worked at TRW Automotive full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good place to work at the plant level. The East TN people are wonderful to work with and they are willing to attack the difficult issues head on.

    Cons

Work life imbalance. The many layers of management made it difficult to get anything done. Do many different audits that you will spend at least three months out of the year either preparing, performing or correcting audit issues. It appears that most of the audits were created to add a management position for someone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go to the plant and see first hand what they need for success.

I have been working at TRW Automotive full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Once you are a well respected employee, people start to treat you better. Lots of freedoms, for the most part (for salaried employees)

    Cons

Earning the respect of "knowing what you're talking about" is overwhelming to a lot of people and so they think its a bad place. Things change at a ridiculous pace so you have to ebb and flow with the environment. I'm too good for my current position so I will never get promoted -- they cant afford to lose me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down and pull the place together. There are too many low-level people making different decisions that dont align with one another. The management team needs to provide and enforce a common direction (but TAKE TIME developing that direction -- dont just whip it out there and MANDATE it for the next three weeks and then forget about it again.)

I have been working at TRW Automotive full-time

    Pros

Some Flexibility with work from home. Good Dental coverage. Worker level employees are helpful and try to fulfill team objectives.

    Cons

Medical benefits have high deductable when comparable to other automotive suppliers and OEMS.
Work Life balance is not balanced. Not much leadership or mentoring. Staffing is short sighted and product knowledge is iffy. No career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to know your staff; aptitudes, knowledge, and your staff that are "weak links". Reassign people accordingly and compensate the capable ones.
