I have been working at Telefónica full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Work life balance. Working with most exciting customers in the IT industry. Great perks, pay and bonuses

    Cons

Very disorganised but a little like a startup in some ways. Sometimes projects are left to last minute and everyone panics working into the early hours but that's not very often. It's the worst internal IT environment known to mankind. Archaic policies and practices coupled with archaic technology means communication is difficult (ironically).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employ more people and invest more into IT

I have been working at Telefónica as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As a contractor, I felt like part of the team. Company went well beyond normal support allowing work from home. No training required. Company values employee engagement first.

    Cons

I would have liked to have stayed and worked on other projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set career paths and development plans. Most people seemed to stay exactly where they were three years after I joined. There are allot of yes men.

    I worked at Telefónica

    Pros

Plenty of earning opportunity and was able to progress to assistant branch manager within eighteen months. Very supportive team too.

    Cons

Faceless organisation where if you work in the extremities then you don't get a look-in from senior management. Before I left they started to squeeze rewards structure and their mystery shopping should never have been the decider on whether a bonus is paid or not. It put too much pressure on staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review staff rewards and client feedback models.

Current Employee - Human Resources Consultant in Slough, Berkshire, South East England, England

I have been working at Telefónica

    Pros

Great environment, both in terms of the physical environment but also the atmosphere

Very positive focus on Customer Service and satisfaction

The employee experience is genuinely something that they work hard on

Competitive package and great flexible benefits

    Cons

Many Line Managers seem to be promoted due to technical abilities or previous experience and don't necessarily have the skills to be great people managers which can impact the employee experience. There is no "induction" for new line managers to help them through this transition

Limited after work social interaction due to campus location (Slough)

Some decisions can take too long and normally involve going far up the LM chain - there's not much confidence in the LM's to make proactive decisions, even if the rhetoric says otherwise

Telefonica own O2 which gives them great financial backing and O2 are positively impacting on Telefonica, however for larger scale projects it can severely impact the pace of decisions.

Significant stakeholder management is needed at all levels to work around the above two points and also the "politics" of cross functional decisions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more focus on Line Manager capability, especially at the point of promotion
Delegate decision making and empower middle managers. Encourage greater risk taking and don't burn people if they get it wrong initially - the rewards are more likely to be greater than the risks.
Ensure expectations are realistic on large scale projects where multiple countries are involved - be open and honest with employees on the comms around this as well - they'll understand
