Worst job ever!

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Howell, MI (US)

I worked at The Children's Place part-time for less than a year

ProsThe pros were that most of the job is task oriented so there was always something to do to make the time fly.

ConsI worked at an outlet store and went into an already really bad management situation. There wasn't a place to take a break so I had to practically sit on the floor in order to be able to sit and wasn't allowed to leave the building at all, not even for lunch because 1 person can't be left in the store alone for safety issues. Schedules were never out until 2 days prior to the next work week, can't schedule your life with that.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers should be people who truly know how to manage people, that's what your title is. Please understand that people have lives and cannot schedule their lives only 2 days out. Try not to hire people just because you know them outside of the work.

No Hours

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Oshkosh, WI (US)

I worked at The Children's Place part-time for less than a year

ProsCute kids come in, and it's rare that you get customers hitting on you

ConsI was only paid minimum wage but expected to work like a dog. I only got 4 hours a week on average due to the management overhiring. There was absolutely no training given to me and I had to figure out every task for myself while only working with 1-2 others who were often "on break" or in the backroom doing who knows what. I was never allotted a break even on the occasional 6 hour shift. It was only a temporary position that was supposed to last 12 weeks whereas I was only given 4. I was also routinely yelled at for clocking in 2 minutes early yet expected to start working as soon as I arrived(10-15min early for a shift).

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't bother hiring so many employees if you can't give them any hours. Also focus more on training and less on pushing rewards and store credit cards that don't actually give any discount.

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at The Children's Place full-time for less than a year

ProsDM was great but pulled in to many directions, good discount

A children's store that doesn't really care about it's employees families

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee)
Nanaimo, BC (Canada)

I worked at The Children's Place full-time for more than a year

ProsDiscount on children's clothing. I can't think of too many more positives...I met some great people that worked for me.

ConsConstantly being expected to perform without compensation equivalent to experience or position. Expected to bend over backwards for a company that doesn't do the same for you. Should be give and take, but is just take, take, take. Smaller mall store mentality so little room for advancement as the store managers are generally not wanting to go anywhere....and will put you down if they feel you are doing your job too well.

Advice to Senior ManagementStrive to improve stores morale and increase sales. Sometimes a store that is striving to meet mediocrity needs a change. Care for your people...as they are people and have lives outside of work.

Disloyal Company

In IT (Former Employee)
Secaucus, NJ (US)

I worked at The Children's Place full-time for more than 10 years

ProsIt is a Nice and clean facilities

ConsNo Loyalty to honest and hard working employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo be loyal to loyal and hard working employees. It is an unfair practice to give new upper management card blanche to restaff their department with their own people upon arrival without regards for the honest, hard working employees that have supported the company for many years before them. Then to fire them on the spot and escorting them out of the building like criminals.

Underpaid and under appreciated. I wish I could give it negative stars.

Stock Room Supervisor (Former Employee)

I worked at The Children's Place part-time for more than 5 years

ProsI worked there when my kids were little to get the discount.

ConsThis company is all about the almighty dollar, theirs, not yours. I worked at The Children's Place as a stockroom supervisor for 5 years. In that time the raises that I received totaled 63 cents per hour. I pretty much processed every single piece of merchandise that came into the store by myself. I worked overnight shifts to get floorsets finished with just myself and one other person. I stood on ladders that were not tall enough or safe enough to be on after working all night to get their ridiculous signs hung in the window and nearly fell off from exhaustion countless times. (By the way, I watched as they fought with someone who got injured on the job and practically refused to let it be covered by worker's comp). And after several years of putting up with their crap I was let go (mind you, I had been at the store longer than everyone else who worked there combined) because I refused to open my availability to be able to work both Saturday and Sunday from open to close. This is absolutely the worst company that I have ever worked for.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink about your employees who work tirelessly, sometimes without any breaks at all to meet your ridiculous deadlines. You cannot do a full floorset with all new merchandise, markdowns, window changes and mannequin changes and help customers to meet your sales goals on 120 hours for the week. Why do you think your turnover is so high? I have never met anyone who was happy to be working for the Children's Place.

Prepare to be taken advantage of and gossiped about. Basically prepare to go back to high school...

Key Holder (Former Employee)
Glen Allen, VA (US)

I worked at The Children's Place part-time for more than a year

ProsIt's a pretty easy job. You work with your hands every day. You meet new people every day.

ConsStore manager will completely ignore your availability and schedule you any way she wants and get mad at you if you don't work the schedule she gives you. Won't allow smoke breaks but will take smoke breaks herself. Won't allow phones but will have her phone out. Gossips about employees from her store and surrounding stores to managers. If she doesn't like what an employee does, she will bad mouth the employee to other managers rather than correct the employee like a store manager should. She plays favorites, if you're not her best friend, she will look for ways to get you written up.

Advice to Senior ManagementAct like a store manager. Stop gossiping, playing favorites, and breaking your own rules.

This is not a family oriented company and their values are only of their bottom line.

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at The Children's Place full-time

ProsA higher than most employee discount, 30% off even on clearance items. The pay rate is above average for the area I'm in.

ConsThey take advantage of the employees that are willing to put in the long hours, blood, blood sweat, tears and time away from family to keep the store operational. Lesser employees are often overlooked for being insubordinate.

Manager

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at The Children's Place

ProsOne thing I like the most is the people!!! You work with very hard workers with high sense of pride. The salary is not bad if you are a manager, and if you have years with the company.

ConsIn a retail industry you need to be innovated and competitive, this company is all about profit and no development for the ones who works on the field. No investment for talent, hrs for training, ended it in lack of hrs and a lot of workload and very tight periods to complete. Customers are rude, and they think to deserve everything for just buying a $5.00 t- shirts and. 1.99 merchandise !! I learn a lot but I will never will be to work again for this company and any children's apparel company ...

Advice to Senior ManagementShe will be more productive running a company of middle age women's. She needs to Go !!!

Store manager

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at The Children's Place

ProsThere were no pros to working there. They give you plenty of vacations days, but you are never allowed to take that time off. And they don't pay out weeks of vacation at the and of the year. You just lose it.

ConsUnhealthy work environment. They cut payroll down to extreme measures. This leaves the store a mess, the employees pushes past their limits, and customers unhappy. One of the worst places I have ever worked. They company does not care about their staff or customers. They just want money no matter what it costs up get it.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you are a manager or corporate employee know that you are a part of a horrible company. I will never refer anyone to ever work for The Children's Place and I most certainly wouldn't shop at any of their locations.
