Datacenter Operator at ConAgra Foods

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Omaha, NE (US) Jan 2013 – Reviewed May 22, 2013 New

Interview Details My interview process was quick and painless. I received phone calls on or before the timeframes they set with me. I went through two phone interviews and one in-person, and the in-person interview allowed me the great opportunity to meet HR, management, and senior members of the team. I greatly appreciated the experience, and would recommend it to anyone.

Interview Question – The most unexpected question was "Why is a manhole cover round?" I must have known a satisfactory answer. I appreciated how it made me think and reason around an issue.   Answer Question

Manufacturing Associate at ConAgra Foods

No Offer – Reviewed May 06, 2013

Interview Details I got invited onto campus interview, it was all behavioral. I had two interviewers, one who wanted to show his dominance as an engineer. He stared at me bug-eyed and loudly asked me "What right do you have to tell others what to do?" (Think Alex Jones yelling at Piers Morgan about 1776...that voice). He was making fun of the other interviewee's too, which was pretty disrespectful (and starts talking about TV shows during my interview, it's obvious he wasn't interested) - I was the last person they interviewed that day.

The other guy was nice.

Manufacturing Development Program at ConAgra Foods

No Offer – Interviewed in Omaha, NE (US) – Reviewed Apr 29, 2013

Interview Details This started with an on campus interview, which went very well. Read up on ConAgra before your interview, it adds talking points and shows you are actually interested. When I interviewed they had just acquired Ralcorp which was huge and made for a very interesting conversation especially in hearing my interviewer's perspective. Following this interview was an onsite interview with a plant. The position was given to someone with more experience, but they pointed me toward another MDP opportunity at one of their other plants and set up a phone interview. This was followed by an onsite interview at said plant, and once again the position was given to someone with more experience. If I had to guess, I'd say they hired from within. Both onsite interviews included plant tours. Overall, it was a very positive learning experience thanks to their HR Supply Chain recruiter who was very helpful in the process. Even though a job did not come of this, they still left to door open and encouraged me to keep applying to opportunities in ConAgra.

Maintenance Supervisor at ConAgra Foods

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Raleigh, NC (US) May 2009 – Reviewed Mar 07, 2013

Interview Details Questions started with how I dealt with employees and problems, discipline, training, development. But most questions focused on background experience with SAP, and managing safety program and training for maintenance. I gave numerous examples on how I previously drew people into SAP process, reinforced documentation, and disciplined those who dragged feet about change. Also gave detailed examples of balancing positive involvement vs. the disciplinary process to overcome resistant Shop Floor leaders. Examples were good enough that each panel member asked for more.

Interview Question – How do we know you can develop people and manage their safety to get results?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I made positive impression during panel interview, and was told offer would be forthcoming in next week. Due to economy, asked for 5% less than previous position, and they agreed.
Also was granted $5K relocation allowance to move myself, with gross-up adjustment to cover taxes.
Position paid overtime, if required to work more than five days a week in Supervisory role.

Associate Food Scientist at ConAgra Foods

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Omaha, NE (US) Oct 2009 – Reviewed Feb 14, 2013

Interview Details Met Conagra at Career fair during college. HR seemed freiendly, however they didn't want to tell me where the R&D was location. I think it was because Omaha is not that desirable of a place to live. Had a mini interview on campus, then was called3 days later and asked to go to Omaha for an offical interview. The offical interview was painless. We had a tour of the bldgs, and workshops where they told us more about the company. Also, there were othere function with in the company that they were also recuiting for that day as well. The actually interview was about 45mins long with 3 current employees in R&D. i heeard back 2 days later, that I had gotten the job.

Interview Question – I don't really reminder what the asked, how I do really that there was 3 current employees that interviewed me and all from slightly diff brands. Snacks, frozen, shelf stable, etc. I know they asked about why I would be a good fit for the company, they gave me an example of a techinal issue and the plant and asked how I would solved it. They also asked me which area I would prefer to work in and why.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I don't think they are used to negotiating with new college grads. I think they are used to people accepting right away or decling. However I did negotiate and was able to get a couple thousand more.
