Finance Internship at Procter & Gamble

No Offer – Reviewed Apr 11, 2013

Interview Details Filled out online form, attached a CV and cover letter, did logic test which was relatively easy and 'success drivers' test which takes a lot longer than the website says it will. It is full of questions concerning what you would do in specific situations. Got through to phone interview which is entirely competency based, was only asked 4 questions.

Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you didn't meet a goal. All questions had follow up conversation.   Answer Question

Research and Development Intern at Procter & Gamble

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Cambridge, East of England, England Dec 2012 – Reviewed Mar 30, 2013

Interview Details Online test, two hour long 1:1 interviews, another written test. Interviewers were friendly and pleasant, but asked very quick questions and every single questions required at least one example to illustrate your point. Don't be afraid to re-use your examples as they asked at least 15 different questions and obviously most people won't have 15 different 'team-building' or 'leadership' examples. The questions did get quite tiresome after a while, especially as the two interviewers didn't consult each other on previously asked questions and so I found myself having to answer the same questions between interviews. The written test was very similar to the online one but slightly harder and longer, it averages to about one minute per question. Some very wordy logic questions at the end.

Interview Question – Which past failure do you most regret?   Answer Question

Information & Decision Solutions Analyst at Procter & Gamble

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Newcastle upon Tyne, England Jan 2013 – Reviewed Feb 23, 2013

Interview Details Phone Interview - This is probably one of the harder phone interviews I have done because it was so extensive. Rather than lasting around 30 mins, I was told the interview would last an hour and it ended up running to around an hour and a half. Every question asked was followed by 5 or so follow up questions - it was extremely thorough. However the guy interviewing me was really friendly and seemed to really understand that it was a two way process and that I wanted to know that P&G was a good fit for me. I was asked about my biggest achievement, how i prioritise, great team working, bad team working, solving conflict, why i was keen about IDS, leadership leadership leadership!!

Assessment day - You sit a round of testing again (after being taken to lunch if you have an afternoon session) which isn't too difficult - the practice they give you is obviously extremely easy in comparison so do not use that as your benchmark.
The interview itself was extremely different from what I was expecting. I was interviewed by P&G when I was trying to get an internship the year before and I had a 1:1 interview and a 2:1 interview. Both were clear and structured with specific questions from a booklet being asked. This time was different - I only had one 2:1 interview (perhaps because of the heavy snow during my visit) and it was more of a conversation for an hour. They had booklet with clear things they had to ask but they started off by just asking me to tell them about what i done in my previous summer internship and they then went on with followed up questions. This made the interview good and bad at the same time. It was more relaxing and I really felt like I was able to show my personality and chat to the itnerviewers. However it was difficult in that as I wasn't getting specific questions I did not know what they were looking for and therefore could tailor or slant my answers to fit. However they must have liked what I said!

I was asked about the activities on my CV (mostly university societies), my previous part time jobs, how I deal with change, how i implement changes, ask extensively about activites during my summer placement which had elements of time management, project management and lots on team work. I was not asked something I could easily identify as a leadership question but i know this is very important to them so i weaved it throughout my answers.

Surprisingly, in neither interview was I asked why P&G or why me. However both times I was given the opportunity to add anything I wanted to say so I used that to show my passion for the company and why I was a good fit.

Interview Question – No difficult questions - just the format of the interview caught me off guard.   Answer Question

No Offer – Interviewed in Weybridge, England Mar 2011 – Reviewed Mar 25, 2011

Interview Details Application --> Onlne Test --> Test on site (Maths + Verbal Reasoning + Logic test) + 2:1 interview with department managers --> Got a reply the day after that I have gone through to the final interview.

only hiring 8 interns, 3 offers have already been made.

I wouldn't say the interview has been the most enjoyable interview I have had because the interviwers had a tick sheet to fill in and they were constantly making notes. Hence it did not feel like we were making a great connection. It felt like they asked those questions because they had to, not that they were genuinely interested in me.

They asked me about 8 questions in 1 hr. They can all be found on the internet. There's nothing unexpected. Do try to think as many examples as possible beforehand to avoid repeating situations, or make up some during the interview ;) Do answer in the CAR form. It makes the interviewers' life easier = higher chance to get through.

Interview Question – Describe a situation in which you effectively developed a solution to a problem by combining different perspectives or approaches.   Answer Question

Head of Safety at Procter & Gamble

Declined Offer – Interviewed in London, England Feb 2009 – Reviewed Jan 28, 2011

Interview Details I was approached by a recruitment adgency about a position they thought would be of interest to me. I provided my CV and had an informal chat with the agency representative who told me more about the position and employer. I was partially interested and agreed for an interview. This was set at a mutually agreeable time. I drove some several hundred miles on the morning of the interivew. Attended the interview with the current Head of the Department, followed by HR. I had not been given the opportunity to arrive the night before so I would be rested on the day. I drove back home immediately afterwards. I decided I would not accept the position anyway, probably even before I went up, but certainly afterwards as I did not like the attitude or the environment area.
