I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Target (Watertown, MA) in Apr 2010
Interview
Being a current employee at Target, they will have you relocate to another target store to gain the experience of working in a different environment. Only did a phone interview, starts off asking about your past jobs and extracurriculars. Then they will ask you situational type questions where you had to lead, conflicts with another co-worker or boss, successes/failures, and strengths/weaknesses. Target is a team oriented culture with a very energetic and demanding work environment and being able to provide help for guests(customers). They also have target lingo to make the environment more cheerful. No feedback is given after the interview. They also have target lingo to make the environment more cheerful.
Short, quick, personable and exciting so you can't gauge how they feel. That said, very easy and fast process, does not require much preparation, just make sure you can pitch yourself well.
There was a total of three rounds. First was phone screening with recruiter, second was with a manager and third was with a panel of mangers at the distribution center.
