Former Employee - Information Technology in Iver Heath, England

I worked at Avid Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Lovely friendly hard working people
    - Great and very well known products
    - Good benefits
    - Fun location and easy access

    Cons

    - Since the original management left, everything has gone bad as none of the new execs know the industry and they only care about pleasing the board of directors and ensuring they leave with a nice package.
    - high expenses allowed for execs but staff has to fly economy and stay in budget hotels.
    - In 7 years I've seen 5 events of redundancy. The atmosphere is terrible for the people who get to stay, and everyone lives in fear that they'll be next. People were even happy to be made redundant and everyone leaving agrees that they'll miss the people and not the company!
    - HR smiles at you but stabs you in the back (I've only known 1 genuine and friendly HR person in the UK office)
    - Customers don't trust the company anymore.
    - In the past, companies like softimage, M-audio, Digidesign, Avid, Sibelius,... were not merged from a product point of view and that was a shame. Sadly, now that this has finally been tackled, it's been done very badly and the original employees who had the skills, talent, experience and knew the customers have all gone. A real shame.
    - Very poor atmosphere and the employees are the ones trying to make efforts to lift up the mood by organizing events.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff, THEY know the business, you don't. Hire managers from the industry, stop hiring your friends who have no clue who the customers are, what they need and how to keep them engaged.
