Current Employee - Vice President in London, England
Current Employee - Vice President in London, England

I have been working at Barclays Capital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

People and culture are exceptional, very knowledgeable and approachable. There's lots to be learned here. There is a lot of loyalty to the people on the floor (including mine).

    Cons

Change is being badly managed, directed and communicated by Senior Management. 4 bosses in 2 years.
IT is under resourced and does not deliver as a result. Systems are outdated and creaking under the strain.
Resource of the right level and knowledge is constrained and there has been an unwillingness to pay to get the right resource in permanently especially given the longer term location strategy, leading to a dependence on contractors who tend to leave within a couple of months. This leads to a continual round of training with no benefit and leads to an additional strain on permanent staff.
There is a feeling that we are being made to pay for working in the investment bank, especially pay and bonus wise, which given that the culture is quite different in the rest of the bank (hours and benefit wise) seems unfair.
Location strategy makes people afraid for their jobs and often leads to inefficiencies and loss of learned knowledge and increased risk as processes are transferred. Especially when there is a huge amount of change going on in the organisation.
