Stultifying and frustrating processes to get basic stuff done.

I have been working at Barclays Capital full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The compensation was very good, and working hours really weren't bad for this type of a company. I did have the opportunity to work on a pretty good project so there was some satisfaction there.

    Cons

The level of talent there was very uneven. When staffing a project, I was under considerable pressure to hire "warm bodies" rather than find the right people for the job. Schedules were unrealistic (though to be fair it did not translate into a demand that employees work longer hours). Though I enjoyed the work and the challenge, it was in other respects just very stifling.

The worst part was the unimaginably complex and unworkable system of requesting anything, or putting any change into the system. This made attempting to do your job efficiently very frustrating. They practically have to hire dedicated people just to operate a byzantine change management system designed by demons.

The company has a binge/purge mentality with respect to its employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Attach more value to streamlining your processes so people can be more productive. Pay more attention to whom you hire and how you achieve your objectives, instead of charging at milestones with mediocrity, and paperwork.
