I have been working at CGI Group full-time (more than 3 years)

Working for management is good, with great technical and business challenges (as opposed to working on projects or client engagements). Decent employer with some very good people and some processes that are low on pain. I have been lucky with some very good managers. If home-based, flexible working is allowed although there is a move towards expecting office-based working. All tools provided and pension scheme in UK is fantastically generous for top-ups. A new North American business management discipline is evident after the Logica takeover which is welcome. All in all a good place if you know what you are getting yourself into.

Processes and bureaucracy can kill productivity. Amateurish systems such as resourcing, expenses, timesheets etc. (PeopleSoft) can annoy. Project staffing is a nightmare as resourcing is still, in this day and age, based on who you know and your reputation rather than matching skills and experience to a project near your location. The resources try hard but are crippled by out-dated technology. Same as another other body-shopper - utilisation targets or your at risk, although they are more patient than most I've seen. Very southern UK focused so little work up North and therefore a risk if you live in the middle of the UK. Training is rare as you are "sold" to clients or projects and therefore their propensity for cost-cutting or spending determines what you can squeeze out. Does not invest in new innovations as its driven by a need for customer delivery with profit. Little in the way of career progression, you'll need to leave for more money and a promotion unless you are willing to work really hard at building a network and personal competencies that align with the business model of delivery.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better at selling and you need to hire more as all I hear is "we don't have the bandwidth"
