I worked at Centrica full-time (more than 3 years)Pros
Before the Upstream management changed, it was a great place to work for.
The general spirit was that you were a valued and esteemed employee. Received great opportunities and got to manage a really interesting and break-through project. As personal development plan my manager agreed to send me to coaching with w a professional coach. Got to work with highly professional and nice people.Cons
When the Upstream management changed, suddenly the atmosphere changed to “you have got to earn the right to spend money”. The investment horizon shortened to 2 to 3 years maximum, setting the upstream business up as cash cow. A warning to investor: Centrica will face the steep reserves cliff in approximately 3 years from now. They are not touching anything new and there will hardly be any oil production left, because exploration “does not rock the boat” of Upstream management.
People were suddenly not appreciated anymore and management stopped listening to them. It is “my way or the highway”. It was such a drastic culture change that it took people a few months to realize this was real. It was almost like seeing people in a combat zone when they start slowly realizing that they are not at peace anymore. People were given bad ratings at the end of the year, despite having delivered, because Management said “we are not paying people, instead we give them bad ratings”. There has been a mass exodus from Centrica Upstream.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Don’t know what possessed the executive management to put change Upstream management. The new management systematically destroyed a well-functioning and growing Upstream business in Centrica. People make a company. They seem to have forgotten that you cannot generate income without people.Doesn't RecommendNeutral OutlookNo opinion of CEO
