Former Employee - Admissions Advisor in Naperville, IL (US)

I worked at DeVry University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pros were a good benefits package and reasonable salary for my first job out of college. Tuition benefits were the only reason I stayed as long as I did.

    Cons

The job can become extremely stressful. The workload revolves around an 8 week schedule of classes, with more stress in the weeks right before classes start to register as many students as possible for classes. The job can be miserable unless you enroll a large number of students which makes the managers like you. There is huge pressure to admit and enroll a large number of students. The work schedule was not at all conducive to work/life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more paths to internal growth for employees. Some employees may not fit into the "sales" role of admissions, but they are excellent employees and should be given the chance to branch into other areas of the company. Stop playing favorites and helping some succeed while ignoring other hard workers.
