I have been working at Granite Construction full-time (more than 10 years)Pros
Granite has experienced significant change over the past five years due to the economy, leadership changes, industry changes and a variety of otherfactors. Throughout this change I believe the organization has remained true to it's core values. There have been challenges with managers and I will say that I may have made different decisions but it does not mean decisions were wrong.
I believe the current leadership still has employee interest at heart and the decisions that are made are making the company better. 401(k) was recently increased, we purchased Kenny Construction out of Chicago and employee engagement appears to be increasing. I am compensated fairly and my managers are as respectful as ever of me and the work I do. I receive good recognition and I believe the work I do is valued by the people I work with, up and down the org chart.Cons
The economic situation has forced leadership to make some very difficult decisions that have not been popular.
Structure is still evolving and Granite appears to be struggling with what it wants to be; large projects, small local contractor or materials producer.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Do everything in your power to reward, compensate, recognize and engage the employees. Stretch the limits, push the board and, again, engage the employees.RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEO
