I worked at M.C. Dean, Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I spent the majority of my time with the company in their European office and the workplace camaraderie was great. The best part about working for this company was the opportunity to work with other hard-working, ambitions people who were also ultimately alienated by this terrible company.

    Cons

Poor management starts at the very top with the drug-addicted CEO and trickles down to the MANY levels of middle management who have little-to-no regard for the well-being of their employees. People are expected to work well over 40 hours a week because they are so short-staffed. Regardless of how much you might work or how hard you try, you can still be let go the next day when they feel the need to "right size". In recent years the workplace morale has understandably plummeted.

The HR department, particularly the one in Europe, is incredibly incompetent. There were some of us who were working overseas on a German work permit and in the final years, HR decided that it was not their responsibility to assist employees in renewing their work permit and made a habit of sending people to the local immigration office to fend for themselves. Due to them not doing their job, there was a month that I worked illegally in Germany.

To clarify however, not all employees are sent overseas on a work permit. Many are sent over with full privileges that include tax exemption, the ability to shop on base, register a car on base, etc. When you ask why some people have these privileges and others must fend on the German economy, you are told that they were eligible due to experience or some non-sense. You start to question this when you see people your own age/experience level working for other contractors with full privileges. They will tell you it was all a matter of how their company filled out the paperwork.

I spent a few months in the US office in Virginia and it is not a pleasant place. They have opening working environments to "promote collaboration". It's incredibly distracting and all it does it make people not want to utter a word because they're convinced they're being watched or listened to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start viewing and treating your employees like human beings with lives and families. They are not disposable resources that can easily be discarded at the drop of a dime.

Stop promoting dysfunctional employees, there does not need to be any more layers of terrible management.
