    I worked at Osram Sylvania full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    This company has some bright, energetic, and truly talented people. It's the employees that make the company viable. There is some flexibility in work schedule and location but it depends on your manager.
    Benefits/Salary are carefully adjusted to be average.

    Cons

    In this quickly changing industry, leadership has completely failed to adapt to the market demands, leading to a decline in market position and layoffs.

    Management seems to be completely focused on how to downsize the company rather than on how to build the company.

    Corporate values are a mystery. Corporate culture is non-existent or Toxic.

    Work life balance is geared to those with the mentality of "work is life", but even that isn't particularly valued. The 14 hour days, the weeks of missed weekends, is just as likely to earn a pink slip as a promotion.

    The slacker that strolls in at 9 and leaves at 4, who has only been there 6 months, yet still has history of missed deadlines and mistakes is just as likely to be your next boss as the dedicated professional that has been there 5 years and has never had anything less that a glowing review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fill executive positions with people that know something about the industry and want to lead Osram Sylvania into the future. Determine what your company values are. Align and balance German and American management. Market first to your employees. Build the brand name back up. Stop selling off valuable assets that took decades to acquire for short term profit gain.
