I have been working at Pearson full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people, good mission, good benefits. There is no shortage of interesting and challenging business/technical problems that need to be tackled. Opportunities for training/growth are available (but you have to ask).

    Cons

Leadership is floundering right now, from the top all the way down. Executive management wants to take all that great Pearson content and stay relevant in the digital age ... to truly transform learning. But they have no idea how to do it, and they're not listening to the people who do.

Good leadership is about finding ways to get the most out of your people ... it's about focusing on results (not the activities towards those results). But you won't get that at Pearson right now. It's become much more authoritarian and top-down in recent years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to make the shift from print to digital, you need to solicit more input from technologists. Too many decisions have been made by legacy-minded leaders, without the input from people that understand how to build software.

You can't become the "Facebook of Education" when you buy all of your software products, yet build your own data center ... technology innovators that are successful do the exact opposite.
