I have been working at Stanford University full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Stanford has amazing opportunities to learn and grow. It's exciting to be in an environment where world class research and education are taking place. There is a strong sense of community among staff and work-life balance is valued. In my job, I feel like I am really making a difference and contributing to something greater.

    Cons

Stanford is located in a very expensive area so it can be a challenge to feel financially successful on a staff salary. In my area, in order to get a promotion, a higher-level position must open up (either due to a new position being added or a departure). There is a limit on how many staff Stanford can have due to the General Use Permit (GUP) agreement, so staff are asked to do more and more with fewer and fewer resources and less support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please shut down the university for 4th of July weekend like we do for year-end holidays.
