I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Home Depot (Store Support Center specifically) provides ample opportunity to gain lots of experience in many different areas. Changing jobs early in your career is easy and encouraged. Great for a new college grad or someone looking to try something new. Strong company, stock purchase plan is great and the location of the main office is conveniently outside of the city in a nice suburb of Atlanta. Great area to live (and others nearby as well) if you have a family.

Nice facility with a gym, cafeteria, CVS, ATMS, dry cleaner and new Day Care Facility. Very convenient so you never have to leave. ;)

Culture is unique, our store associates in particular really do "Bleed Orange" and we have many "lifers" here at the SSC and in the field.

    Cons

While job growth and flexibility are great, when you do find a position that you enjoy and are interested in, it is difficult to move up in position. They lose a lot of good people to other jobs (mostly within the company) because in order to move up and increase salary you have to leave.

Large focus on who you know often results in unqualified people being placed in middle management roles. Lack of training for new managers creates many unproductive, unhappy teams.

Benefits are so-so. Definitely negotiate additional time off when you start. Cubes and other desk-related items (chairs, desks, phones) seem like they have never been updated - don't expect anything ergonomic at all and you will have to jump through hopes (or buy things yourself) to get comfort items that you may need.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We have great leaders in our company, but somewhere down the line the quality of management diminishes. There are a lot of redundancies in the company, and much more could be accomplished with our resources if there was not so much red tape and duplicate efforts.
