Former Employee - Naval Aircrewman in Coronado, CA (US)

I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Military members are generously compensated, especially considering the job outlook in the private sector. As an aircrewman you get flight pay, and typically don't have to live on a boat (most of the time). Advancement is easy enough. The opportunities are there and guidance is available for those that want it. A lot of good life experience.

    Cons

The experience that you gain in the military goes miles as far as character development, but is completely worthless in the civilian job market (most of the time). I would rather pull out one of my own teeth then try to get my benefits from the VA. The military owns you, Django style, and it is very common to have to answer to a half literate, hateful, *expletive deleted*. As an enlisted person you are guaranteed to have to answer to an officer with less experience than you. If you are a female, you will be sexually assaulted. Aviation and war are two very dangerous activities, sometimes you or your friends die.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In no particular order: STOP CHANGING THE UNIFORMS! It costs a lot of money, and it makes you look stupid. Do SOMETHING to prevent sexual crimes in the ranks, its embarrassing for all of us and it makes you look stupid. Improve the medical care. Seriously, where are you finding these doctors?
