Good reputation, but unless you are a doctor, don't expect much.

Former Employee - Professional Rater II in Saint Louis, MO (US)

I worked at Washington University in St. Louis full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The medical campus provides good benefits with regard to vacation and sick leave time. The name recognition will also gain attention.

    Cons

Low pay relative to education and experience and very small raises some years with salary freezes other years. It is difficult to near impossible to move into a higher level position with zero assistance from HR. There were always safety issues at the WUSM campus with frequent car break-ins and other crime. Each group within each department is different and there is not much of a sense of cohesion among the University due to this. Added high cost of parking only exacerbates the low pay, nearly $100/month when I left. For a premier medical institution, the health care benefits could be better for staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in the people who are supporting all of the doctors in order to retain high quality employees.
