    Histologist / Histology Tech - Anatomic Pathology Lab 9pm - 5am

    Job Duties

    We are a full service anatomic pathology laboratory that has been providing pathology and laboratory medicine services to the Dallas/ Fort Worth area since 1990. Our staff is comprised of 8 board certified and subspecialty fellowship trained pathologists with expertise in surgical pathology, cytopathology, gastro-intestinal pathology, breast pathology, and hematopathology.

    We are looking for a motivated histologist to join our team full time. The histologist is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties in the Histology laboratory.

    TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Process, embed, cut, stain and coverslip
    • Uses and maintains stainer, coverslipper, processor, embedder, and microtome, including troubleshooting measures
    • Empty, clean, refill, filter Cytology stains, H& E stainer, and Tissue Tek machine and paraffin
    • File paraffin blocks and slides
    • Label slides
    • Performs routine, immunohistochemistry, and special stains on appropriate specimens
    • Log special stains and cytology cases
    • Maintain Frozen Section Laboratory staining station
    • Pull accompanying reports and deliver slides to the Pathologist
    • Transfer bones from formalin to decalcifying solution
    • Perform quality control measures and maintains record in accordance with manufacturer’s directions. Correct deficiencies and documents all corrective actions
    • Maintain proper documentation including accession logs, test control logs, equipment records, and checklists
    • Maintain inventory and ensure orders are prepared and submitted on a timely basis
    • Follows all laboratory policy and procedures

    INTERACTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Make suggestions to supervisor for improving laboratory quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
    • Always present a positive and professional manner to other professionals and office staff.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality 100% of the time, demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information.
    • Abides by established office policies and procedures.
    • Maintain a good attendance record.
    • Maintain an organized and clean histology laboratory.
    • Remain flexible and committed to being a team player.
    • Demonstrate willingness in taking on additional tasks as necessary. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    SKILLS REQUIRED:

    • Knowledge of histology and cytology laboratory procedures, standards and tests to perform quality control checks, and evaluate staff performance; knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform troubleshooting of instrumentation.
    • Knowledge of appropriate lab and regulatory guidelines including, but not limited to: CLIA and CAP
    • Knowledge of supervisory principals to oversee the work of other laboratory staff.
    • Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and to recognize and correct hazardous conditions.
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with office and medical staff and public.
    • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to follow written protocols.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to communicate clearly.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Histology laboratory environment. Work may be stressful at times. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend, and stretch. Occasional heavy lifting required, up to 50 pounds. Exposure to potentially infectious agents. Frequent hand washing required. Vision and hearing must be correctable to within normal range. Visual acuity needed to read and identify specimen samples. Fast paced environment with possible frequent interruptions.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour
