    SALES ASSOCIATE (HARDWARE/BUILDING SUPPLY STORE)

    Marcon Building Supply (formerly Dennis Lumber & Concrete) is located along National Pike in Markleysburg, PA. We are a family owned and operated business striving to make our store a One-Stop-Shop for contactors and homeowners, saving them a trip over the mountain. Since the new owners took over in 2015, we have undergone several expansion projects to the hardware store, the most recent in May 2021 expanding the hardware store to about 7000 square feet. We also have a new 8600 square foot lumber building. In addition to ready-mix concrete, we carry lumber, pre-cast, building supplies, sand, stone, gravel, mulch, plumbing, hardware, electrical, paint, hand and power tools, lawn and garden, housewares, concrete tools, seasonal and so much more!

    With the most recent expansion project completed, we are in need of a Retail Sales Associate to join our growing team. We have full time and part time positions available.

    This candidate must have a flexible schedule and be available to work any shifts during our normal operating hours of Monday through Friday from 6:30-6:00 and Saturdays 6:30-4:00 (we are closed on Sundays)

    This person will be responsible for the receiving, storage, stocking, pricing, merchandising, and sales of the Hardware Department. Other duties including keeping up with the cleanliness of the department areas and any other tasks as assigned.

    This candidate must be able to operate a forklift or be willing to learn (in order to load bulk items into customer vehicle, assist with store deliveries, etc)

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Customer Service

    • Greet and engage customers promptly
    • Guide customers to product
    • Suggest related and/or additional products needed to complete their project
    • Answer phone calls forwarded to the Hardware Department
    • Inform supervisors about requested items from customers
    • Support loss prevention efforts through customer engagement and proper procedures
    • Assist customers with loading items into their vehicles

    Maintain Department

    • Replace stock as received/sold
    • Pull stock forward on shelves to maintain a neat and orderly look
    • Place back stock in designated location; keep area clean and organized
    • Request and place any needed signage with assigned area per company guidelines
    • Keep aisles and shelves clean and organized
    • Adhere to closing procedures (register closeouts, clean restrooms, sweep & mop floors, take trash out, etc)

    Essential Job Functions/Skills:

    • Provide excellent customer service.
    • Retail Sales Associates must qualify in knowledge of the hardware duties within the store including key making, cutting chain/rope/tubing/plexiglass and paint/stain mixing. Hardware associates must qualify in the basic cashier functions.
    • Must have excellent communication skills with the customer and work associates.
    • Must be willing and able to learn more product information and be able to locate product within the store.
    • Must be willing to answer the phone as instructed and help the customer on the phone as needed.
    • Must show initiative and willingness to ensure store cleanliness, stock product as needed, and perform other duties, projects or tasks when asked or needed.
    • Must be a team player
    • Demonstrate knowledge of sales approaches, methods, and techniques.
    • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. without assistance.
    • Must be capable of standing, bending, kneeling and repetitive lifting for the duration of your shift.
    • Must be able to see, hear and have the sense of touch

    Education & Experience: A HS diploma or GED is preferred. Must be 18 or older. Sales Associate must be able to demonstrate Home Improvement knowledge or have 1 to 2 years of prior retail hardware experience.
