I worked at BNY Mellon part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Question of FIT is very important and means recruitment is not so rigid.
Unique working culture and investment philosophy.
Meetings with management were a definite highlight and my supervisor was well-aware that this access is a benefit.
Insight into confidential, market discussions with investment team.
The boutique had around 100 employees but an international reputation and soaring assets under management. Because everyone including the directors were very down-to-earth and very approachable meaning I was not constantly aware of the reputation of the firm which became clear to me only after the internship.
Chance to present to the investment team and directors!
Symbolic minimum wage may be a disincentive to some and definitely stands our considering the high salaries of permanent employees. I found this understandable, though.
    Hours: 9-18.30!

    Cons

Internship scheme at a boutique may not offer same opportunities as at a larger bank, which is why my supervisor recommended gaining experience at a larger firm in London.
All individual projects assigned to interns were interesting and filed for future reference to inform decisions on graduate scheme applications. However, many of these were not directly relevant to Asset Management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More transparency on compensation could be an additional incentive, but this is understandably sensitive as the employees are among the best paid in the country.
