    I have been working at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    The attorneys you get to work with are incredibly nice and if you know what you are doing will seek you out for assistance regularly. Partners as well. Also, salary and benefits are good. Lots of intetesting cases.

    Cons

    Firm is tight fisted with money and will make you jump through hoops for overtime approval, IT infrastructure, etc. Finance is even proud of the fact that they run a "lean" shop. Additionally, IT seems clueless at times. Finally, management feels checked out and more concerned about cya than building service that runs well and is efficient.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give support staff avenues to progress and move up - especially with ediscovery staff. It seems like they want you to do everything possible to bill hours and dont give legit resources technology wise to get the work done (have yet to see a legit sql server to host law cases in 2 years). If you want to keep ediscovery folks for longer than 2 years, provide promotion opportunities and dedicated avenues to handle low level work. Smart people get sick of doing low level work after a certain amount of time with zero prospects for advancement. Having to balance low level and high level work that is all high priority gets old quickly.

    I applied through college or university. The process took 2 days - interviewed at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher in August 2013.

    Interview Details

    The interview for the summer associate position through my law school's on campus interview was done with two people: one mid-level associate and one partner. After OCI's, some (but not all who received callbacks) received invitation to a dinner event that happened later on the day of the interview. The callback interview was a full-day event. 4 interviews in the morning (1 first year associate & 3 partners), lunch with 2 associates & a partner, break in the afternoon, dinner event with 3 associates. The interview questions are pretty standard: walk through the resume, talk about 1L summer job experience, any hobbies, previous job experience. Everyone is very very nice to you, although some are more serious, others more jovial/conversational. I heard the firm makes some offers starting on the dinner so the decision turnaround is extremely fast.
