I worked at Penguin Group as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

I got a broad range of exposure across a couple of very different departments.

They're willing to give those who show initiative a great deal of responsibility.

People are very friendly and welcoming.

    Cons

Sometimes the work (and this is true of any internship) is mundane. You can overcome this by asking for more responsibility and speaking up if you're not happy. They are very receptive and will listening to what you have to say.

    Stipend is negligible.

You are unlikely to land a job after an internship.

Hard to get through to HR, but once they read your resume they'll respond. Phone interview and in-person interview... first HR was very formal/standard, and then in-person with the managers was much more relaxed.

    Interview Questions
    • The original HR interview was very standard, what are your weaknesses, your strengths in the office?   Answer Question
    • What do you think is important in a work relationship?   Answer Question

Where have "Lady Chatterley's Lover" and Salman Rushdie kept company? At The Penguin Group, one of the world's top book publishers (and no stranger to controversial titles). Owned by media giant Pearson, the publisher operates through such imprints as Viking (literary fiction and non-fiction), Puffin (children's books), Dorling Kindersley (reference works), and Rough Guides (travel). Authors include Tom Clancy, Patricia Cornwell, and Nora Roberts. Pioneer of the paperback, Penguin was founded in 1935 by Allen Lane, who wanted to offer novels for the price of a pack of... More
