    I have been working at Smiths Detection full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    The Product&Technology should be the core of the business. Use to be market leaders but competition has been catching up and successive cuts on R&D spending led to lots of good people leaving.

    Cons

    Very poor management. Lack of priorities, often lost in structural changes, than restructuring, than new projects all at the same time. Difficulty in implementing and achieving changes and positive results. Opportunities often end in frustration for those involved. Increase intervention from Group Plc is not helping, alienates people from strategy and management. Staff are demotivated. Pay and benefits below industry benchmark.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get a solid strategy, push management to implement focusing in a few achievable priorities and encourage accountability. Focus on technology and people.

    Contacted by recruiting agency. Process took about 1 month. 1 phone interview and 2 in person. It wasn't a very difficult process. Everyone was very nice. HR had to check on the answer to a lot of questions with the corporate headquarters.
