I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Mostly the people, great community of friendly and passionate people. A lot of small startups have been acquired so the talent here is through the roof and it's never boring. No matter what your role, there's always room to explore and push yourself with room for internal growth both personally and professionally. Great salary!

    Cons

Working with different timezones on a global scale can be challenging... but then again there's lots of travel involved so this doesn't really qualify as a con.

    Pros

The pace is fast, rewards are good, the job is interesting and there are many opportunities for development and career growth. Great working environment and great people to work with.

    Cons

As a public traded company we are constantly under pressure by the street to hit the numbers and this takes away the entrepreneurial flexibility and agility to seize certain opportunities

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can take advantage of big internation company and in the same time there are not negative aspects of big corporations. There is freedom to work on new things and explore new areas. Company cares about professional development. The environment is very friendly and it is easy to work when you have friends around you.

    Cons

There are many changes constantly which are not well managed. Employees don't have sufficient information about company direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the employees, talk to them, listen to them. You can get much more from employees.

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent friendly and smart people, lots of scope for personal initiative if you're good and eager, good salary. Good product portfolio and a forward-looking strategy.

    Cons

Currently in transition, so will take a few months to settle down and allow the new strategy to work best. But this also means there are further opportunities for the adventurous and hardworking sort.

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent group of people to work for and with in my particular office. Excellent benefits package and group outings.

    Cons

Very secretive company, the everyday employees never have a clue whats going on above them. Roles have changed multiple times with little or no warning. Commission based quotas are increased every month if you have a successful month to ensure you never hit 100% of bonus quota. We often do not receive monthly sales quotas until after the 20th of the month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open with employees. Set an aggressive but achievable monthly sales quota.

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time

    Pros

    - Very nice colleagues
    - Fun work environment, team oriented
    - Solid benefits
    - Depending on the office, free lunch (:
    - Good pay and compensation
    - Strong branding

    Cons

The review "Diamond in the rough" here is the most accurate and honest description of AVG currently. It is so accurate, there have been four 4 star and higher reviews with overwhelming approval of AVG made immediately afterwards to seemingly bury it. This is why I have given AVG one star instead of two or three. It's a measure of my disappointment in the timing of these positive reviews in rapid succession.

AVG currently suffers from a lack of real direction. It's in a long effort to correct that, but there has been little new results from these changes. As "Diamond" says, innovation is tough to come by in AVG as legal, marketing and security have a strangle hold on many facets outside of their bounds that even companies as large as IBM would be easy on. "Diamond" also cites innovation is stifled by fear of job loss which can be validated from my perspective. Many talented employees are frustrated with the slow progress and some have left voluntarily due to the slow progress.

The management team seems to be running out of ideas on innovation and the best way to repackage the brand for the investors. There is a lot of the "old guard" in AVG who have been there for over 5 years and are settled in their pre-IPO ways. Changing that mindset may be tough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

AVG needs to get its products strong again in core functionality and the brand needs to reflect that. AVG seemed to take this slide when going public. The old guard isn't keen on operating in the speed a publicly traded company needs to and the offerings to investors and customers are superficial. AVG and it's employees are great and there are huge opportunities there, but creative leadership needs to step in for products and development to reestablish AVG at the top of a highly technical and security focused field.
