Great people but awful company policies.

Impact Employee (Former Employee)
Lynnwood, WA (US)

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch part-time for less than a year

ProsI loved the other employees and my manager. My manager often would bring us Starbucks. He also was good at giving feedback without being too critical. All of my coworkers were extremely nice and fun to talk to. The work was straightforward and relatively easy.

ConsThe policies of the company were sometimes disturbing. They only hire attractive employees and they do not trust or respect the employees or customers. You are told to always watch out for customers stealing but are never instructed on good customer service. The dress code is strict. Pays minimum wage.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut more effort on customer service.

ProsYou meet fun, young people that you can definitely relate to

ConsYou have to wear their clothes and spend your hard earned money on them every time a new "Triple A" comes out
Managers are often shallow about looks and appearance
Work Drama - its like being in high-school
Work you like a slave for minimum wage
Remember, you are not a model, you are just a sales associate.
Your expendable, hours are slim

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch part-time for more than a year

ProsFlexibility and Overtime Opportunities.

ConsDoes not promote individuality.
Perfume is sprayed too often and the store itself is really dark.
Employee discount isn't all that high and you have to buy the clothes every time the floor plan changes.
NO CHANCE OF A PAY INCREASE EVER!

Advice to Senior ManagementHair choices and nail polish is not up for you to decide.
Increase employee discount if we have to buy your clothes every time a trend changes.
Decrease how many times you spray your fragrances

Fun job

Store Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time for more than 3 years

ProsWorking with younger people, fun atmosphere, lots of promotion opportunities, A&F pays to relocate you, great entry level job to gain management experience. If you like the clothes, the discounts weren't bad. This job is what you make it- you can work hard and it will pay off, or you can slack off and probably won't get fired.

ConsMall hours suck, working weekends is not fun, the pay is the lowest compared to other management jobs at other retailers. Supervising the young associates feels like babysitting sometimes. The atmosphere is pretty laid back, and can be unprofessional sometimes. If you want to move up in the company you must be willing to relocate.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen I left A&F they were making lots of changes in order to cut costs and save money, while also closing stores. I just hope they can turn the company around before it's too late.
